NXP is looking for an experienced LLVM compiler engineer to help lead development of compiler tools for RISC-V based cores. The popular LLVM open-source toolchain is the core of new compiler development at NXP and will be the base compiler serving a family of microcontroller and microprocessor cores in the years to come.

As a LLVM Compiler Development Engineer at NXP you will work with a worldwide team of compiler experts tasked with bringing NXP specific features and optimizations to the LLVM toolchain. You will work with internal design teams on core specifications and programming models. You will work together with tool safety experts to ensure NXP compiler tools are suitable for use in safety conscious development environments. Your involvement in compiler development will span from design to deployment of compiler releases following NXPs software processes to ensure the highest quality software deliverables to both internal and external customers.

Your responsibilities

• Design the features and define the deliverables related to compiler tools for RISC-V based CPU cores
• Work in a technical leadership role in LLVM compiler development working with core architecture design teams as well as internal NXP compiler tools consumers.
• Work together with a worldwide development team to drive the design development and deployment cycle for NXP specific compiler features in the LLVM compiler framework
• Collaborate with testing and safety teams to ensure that NXP compiler tools meet stringent safety standards as defined by ISO26262
• Work with the NXP software quality teams to enact practices to ensure the highest levels of software quality are maintained
• Participate in the LLVM open-source community

Your team

Your team will consist of a worldwide team located in Austin Texas. The teams will span several worldwide sites including Bangalore India; Bucharest Romania; and Hanoi Vietnam. The position is based in NXPs facilities in Austin this role you will report to John Russo NXP Compiler Development manager who is based in Austin Texas.

Your profile

To be successful in this role you have:

• An undergraduate university degree in computer science or computer engineering or related field
• 5 years of experience or more in developing compiler optimizations or compiler target backends
• Experience in the LLVM compiler tools framework
• A breadth of knowledge in compiler tools development including linker assembler and standard library development experience
• Experience in compiler development for embedded systems
• Strong knowledge of computer architecture

Furthermore you are:

• Analytical and have a problem-solving mindset
• A good communicator and able to work with a diverse group of people
• Self-directed and able to work independently but also act as a mentor to members of the team in compiler development

Contract: This is a fulltime position with a permanent contract
