The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes milling machines drill presses and grinders to produce precision parts and components according to engineering drawings blueprints and specifications. This role requires strong hands-on skill attention to detail and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Requirements
Read and interpret engineering drawings blueprints and technical specifications to determine machining requirements
Set up and operate manual lathes milling machines drill presses grinders and other conventional machine tools
Select appropriate tooling speeds feeds and cutting parameters based on material type and job requirements
Measure inspect and verify finished parts using precision instruments (micrometers calipers dial indicators gauges) to ensure conformance to tolerances
Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on machines to ensure optimal working condition
Fabricate repair or modify parts and tools as required
Maintain accurate production records including job cards time logs and material usage
Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean organized workspace
Collaborate with supervisors engineers and quality control staff to resolve production issues
Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Diploma/ITI certificate in Mechanical Engineering Machining Technology or related trade
Minimum 35 years of hands-on experience as a manual machinist (industry-dependent)
Proficiency in operating manual lathes milling machines and grinding equipment
Strong knowledge of metals materials and their machining properties
Ability to read technical drawings and use precision measuring tools
Good mathematical skills (geometry trigonometry) for calculations
Attention to detail and commitment to quality
Physical stamina for standing lifting and repetitive tasks
