Job Summary

Read this part first it is not a normal developer ad

AI writes the code now. We use it every day and it is good at it. So we are not hiring someone to type PHP faster than a machine can. That job is finished.

We are hiring the person who decides what should be built and why notices when the obvious solution is the wrong one and can look at a clients business and see where code would actually make them money.

That person is the Philippines they are very rare because most developer work here has been task-taking: a ticket arrives you build the ticket. We do not want a ticket-taker. We want someone who reads the ticket and says this will not fix the real problem here is what will.

If that is you this will be the most interesting job you have had. If it is not please do not apply you will not enjoy it.

Who we are

EcomExperts is a digital marketing agency based in Perth Western Australia. We do SEO Google Ads and web work for clients around the world. The team is remote-first and small so nobody is a cog. You will talk to the people who own the decisions including the CEO.

What you would actually do

● Take a vague business problem (this clients leads dropped this site takes nine seconds to load we publish 40 articles a month by hand) and turn it into something working.
● Build and maintain WordPress and WooCommerce sites themes plugins and Elementor builds for our clients.
● Automate the repetitive parts of our own agency: publishing pipelines data pulls reporting internal tools. If you see us doing something by hand fifty times we expect you to say so.
● Diagnose things nobody has diagnosed yet. Broken migrations hacked sites plugin conflicts mystery 500s DNS that was set up wrong three years ago.
● Use AI properly as a tool: to write the boring code fast then review it like a senior engineer because it will be confidently wrong and you have to catch that.
● Make judgement calls on taste. Layout spacing hierarchy whether a page looks like something a real business would publish. You do not need to be a designer but you need an eye and you need to be able to say why something looks cheap.

What you need to already know

WordPress three years minimum hands on. Themes plugins WooCommerce Elementor migrations.
PHP and MySQL properly. You can read someone elses plugin and work out what it does.
HTML CSS JavaScript. Responsive layouts that hold together on a phone.
Servers and DNS: cPanel Cloudflare A records SSL moving a site between hosts without losing anything.
Git or an equivalent you can explain.
● Enough SEO literacy to not break a site: noindex versus index canonical tags redirects page speed why a rebuild can cost a client their rankings.
● Written and spoken English good enough to explain a technical trade-off to a non-technical client without making them feel stupid.
● A fast computer and reliable internet. This is non-negotiable the whole job is remote.

What we are really testing for

Judgement. Choosing the cheap fix over the elegant one when the client only needs the cheap fix and knowing when the opposite is true.
Curiosity. You have broken things apart to see how they work on your own time with nobody paying you.
Ownership. You chase a problem until it is genuinely gone not until the ticket is closeable.
Honesty. You say I do not know yet instead of guessing and you say I broke it the same day you broke it.
Taste. You can tell good work from work that merely functions.

The details

● Full time 100% remote from anywhere in the Philippines.
● Working hours overlap with Perth Western Australia (AWST). Philippine time is the same clock as Perth so this is a normal day for you no night shifts.
● AUD 1800 to 3000 per month depending on what you can actually do. The top of that band is real and we will pay it for the right person.
● You report to Marc Moeller the CEO.
● Long term role. We are hiring someone to grow with not for one project.

How to apply

The questions on this form are the real test. They are scenario questions and there is no correct answer we are matching against we are reading how you think.

Answer them in your own words. If we get an answer that reads like it was pasted straight out of ChatGPT with no thought on top we will pass and it is very easy to tell. Using AI to check your spelling is fine. Using it to do your thinking for you defeats the entire point of the role.

Include a portfolio or links to WordPress work you have done and tell us specifically which part was yours.
