Solar Design & Estimation Engineer
Work Mode: Hybrid
Role Overview:
Responsible for preparing accurate solar system designs material take-offs cost estimates and
technical proposals for U.S. residential and commercial solar projects. The role works closely
with Sales Engineering Proposal Permitting and Project Management teams to ensure accurate
and timely project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed solar PV system designs using Aurora Solar HelioScope AutoCAD
and related engineering tools.
Perform accurate material take-offs (MTO/BOQ) for PV modules inverters racking
electrical equipment BOS components and other project materials.
Prepare project cost estimates pricing and labor/material assumptions based on
project scope.
Review site information satellite imagery structural/electrical details and customer
requirements to develop feasible system designs.
Prepare and review layouts SLDs equipment specifications and design
documentation in accordance with applicable U.S. codes and utility requirements.
Support commercial pre-sales proposals with accurate technical and financial inputs.
Coordinate with Sales and Proposal teams to clarify project scope design assumptions
and pricing requirements.
Identify design conflicts scope gaps material requirements and potential project risks
before proposal submission.
Maintain standardized estimating templates equipment databases pricing references and
design standards.
Review revisions and incorporate client sales utility AHJ or engineering comments
within required timelines.
Ensure all designs and estimates meet company quality standards and project deadlines.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Renewable Energy or a related field.
Experience in solar PV design estimation and material take-offs.
Strong knowledge of PV system components electrical systems and solar design
principles.
Working knowledge of NEC and U.S. solar design requirements.
Proficiency in Aurora Solar HelioScope AutoCAD Excel or similar tools.
Strong analytical estimation and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interpret site information electrical drawings specifications and project
documentation.
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
