The Low Voltage Engineer / Estimator is responsible for reviewing construction drawings performing accurate quantity takeoffs preparing estimates and producing clear documentation for field technicians. This role requires strong technical expertise in low voltage systems plan reading and drawing markupsnot just administrative support. The engineer/estimator will collaborate with project managers clients and field teams to ensure precise scope definition cost control and successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Review and interpret architectural electrical MEP and low voltage/security drawings.
Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for devices cable runs cameras data drops and related scope.
Prepare cost estimates proposals and supporting documentation.
Create floor plan markups system diagrams and installation drawings for field technicians.
Utilize digital takeoff and markup software (Bluebeam PlanSwift AutoCAD Visio Excel).
Coordinate with field teams installers subcontractors and site engineers to resolve questions and site condition changes.
Update drawings and estimates based on change orders RFIs addenda or field modifications.
Communicate directly with clients to clarify project scope and requirements.
Organize tasks drawings estimates and open questions independently in a remote work environment.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering Electronics Construction Management or related field (preferred).
3 years of experience in low voltage estimating plan reading and technical project coordination.
Technical Skills
Proficiency in Bluebeam PlanSwift AutoCAD Visio and Excel.
Strong knowledge of low voltage electrical MEP and auxiliary systems (CCTV access control intercom structured cabling AV Wi-Fi automation).
Ability to prepare clear floor plan markups system diagrams and installation drawings.
Competence in performing accurate quantity takeoffs and organizing estimates.
