Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Geologist to support groundwater investigations borehole development hydrogeological assessments and geotechnical evaluations for water infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience in groundwater exploration borehole siting and supervision aquifer testing and geological investigations related to water supply projects. Experience handling donor-funded NGO-sponsored or government water projects is highly desirable.

The role requires strong technical expertise in hydrogeology subsurface investigations and reporting as well as the ability to work closely with engineers and contractors during drilling and construction activities.


Key Responsibilities:

Hydrogeological Investigation & Borehole Siting:

  • Conduct geological and hydrogeological surveys for groundwater development projects.

  • Identify suitable borehole locations using geophysical and geological data.

  • Supervise borehole drilling operations and ensure proper well construction.

  • Log boreholes and prepare detailed lithological and hydrogeological reports.


Aquifer Testing & Analysis:

  • Conduct and interpret pumping tests and step-drawdown tests.

  • Analyze groundwater yield recharge capacity and sustainability.

  • Recommend appropriate borehole design casing and screen placement.

  • Evaluate groundwater quality and suitability for intended use.


Geotechnical & Site Assessment:

  • Provide geological input for construction of reservoirs treatment plants and transmission infrastructure.

  • Assess soil and subsurface conditions affecting civil works.

  • Identify potential geological risks and recommend mitigation measures.


Project Coordination & Compliance:

  • Work closely with Civil Mechanical and Electrical Engineers during project implementation.

  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian water resource regulations and environmental standards.

  • Prepare technical reports for submission to regulatory bodies and donor agencies.

  • Participate in project meetings site inspections and technical reviews.



Requirements

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • BSc/MSc in Geology Hydrogeology or related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in groundwater development and water infrastructure projects.

  • Proven experience in borehole drilling supervision and aquifer testing is required.

  • Experience handling donor-funded NGO-sponsored or government projects is highly desirable.


Professional Certification (Compulsory):

  • Registered with COMEG (Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists) Mandatory.

  • Membership of relevant professional bodies (e.g. NMGS) is an added advantage.


Technical Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of hydrogeological investigation techniques.

  • Experience with geophysical survey methods (VES resistivity etc.).

  • Ability to interpret geological maps and subsurface data.

  • Familiarity with groundwater modeling and reporting tools is an advantage.

  • Good understanding of Nigerian water resource regulations.
