Job Summary
Do you want to work at the intersection of Mining Engineering and R&D where innovative technology geomechanics and sustainable cavern applications come together Nobian is developing the next generation of caverns for production energy storage and circular use. As a Junior Mining R&D Engineer you will play a key role in developing modelling and optimizing these underground systems.
As a Junior Mining R&D Engineer you collaborate closely with both Mining Development & Compliance (MDC) and Research Development & Innovation (RD&I). You contribute to projects such as backfilling secondary cavern use post saturation of weak brines H₂ storage CAES and the development of advanced numerical simulations for salt caverns.
- Explore and develop opportunities for cavern backfilling and storage broader than existing initiatives such as H₂ and CAES.
- Provide geomechanical expertise for ongoing projects. Contribute to updating tactical knowledge related to cavern storage.
- Provide technical support for solids handling backfill materials and clean return of brine streams.
- Review process and contribute to project deliverables and departmental reporting.
- Analyse and report on progress including safety technical issues required competencies permits and barrier removal actions.
- Ensure compliance with Nobian guidelines processes and external regulations. Apply critical thinking and responsible use of AIbased tools for data analysis modelling and engineering workflows.

You collaborate easily with others and you take responsibility for the quality of your work. Furthermore you have:
- MSc. Level in geophysics geology or geomechanics.
- Experience with geomechanical modelling and/or finite element modelling for geotechnical problems.
- Experience in geological data analysis and their interpretation
- 0-2 years experience in mining engineering R&D.
- Strong innovative drive to learn and develop new competences for mining applications and experience with or willingness to learn AI-enabled tools for data analysis
- You are available for 32-40 hours per week.
