Who we are supporting
The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATOs member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels Belgium.
The NCIA provides a wide range of services including:
- Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATOs communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
- Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATOs military commanders to plan and execute operations.
- Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
- Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATOs mission to detect deny and defeat threats to its communication networks.
- Information Management: The NCIA manages NATOs information technology infrastructure including its databases applications and servers.
Overall the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATOs communication and information technology capabilities.
The program
Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATOs principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV and when required stand together in the face of attack under Article V.
To provide these critical services in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorises: NATO International Civilians (NIC)s Military (Mil) and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.
Protective Security Assistant

Role Background
The Protective Security Assistant supports the day-to-day delivery of protective security operations ensuring compliance with NATO and NCIA security policies and procedures. The role is responsible for supporting personnel physical industrial information and communications security activities while contributing to business continuity security awareness risk management and security governance.
Working closely with internal stakeholders the Protective Security Assistant helps maintain a secure operating environment by administering security processes supporting audits and inspections managing security records and assisting with cryptographic and information assurance activities.
Role Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day administration and delivery of Protective Security operations.
- Assist in the management of physical personnel industrial and business security activities.
- Maintain personnel security records and databases.
- Coordinate and deliver security awareness activities for personnel.
- Provide technical support for security and Information Assurance (IA) projects.
- Maintain and monitor local security procedures to ensure compliance with NATO and NCIA security policies.
- Conduct and support security audits inspections and compliance activities.
- Assist in planning and coordinating Communications Security (COMSEC) activities.
- Support cryptographic security services and related operational activities.
- Assist in the development maintenance and testing of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans.
- Support Health & Safety activities within the organization.
- Provide internal IT support assistance to personnel when required.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on security-related matters.
- Deputise for the Section Head when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills Experience and Certifications
- Strong knowledge of protective security principles and practices.
- Understanding of telecommunications networking and information technology systems.
- Knowledge of Information Security (INFOSEC) Communications Security (COMSEC) Computer Security (COMPUSEC) and Security Operations (SECOPS).
- Knowledge of personnel physical and industrial security processes.
- Security risk assessment and vulnerability management.
- Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery principles.
- Security audit and compliance processes.
- Information Assurance (IA).
- Security administration and records management.
- Proficiency with security-related office tools and systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Higher vocational qualification in Security Telecommunications Security Computer Science Cyber Security Information Assurance Cryptographic Security Forensic Security or a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

- Secondary education with a minimum of 4 years relevant professional experience.
- Experience monitoring the performance of CIS-related projects.
- Experience conducting security risk assessments and identifying security vulnerabilities.
- Experience implementing corrective security measures.
- Experience supporting security compliance governance and operational security activities.
- Experience working with security management processes and procedures.
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within an international environment involving military and civilian personnel.
- Knowledge of NATO structures including ACO and ACT.
- Understanding of NATO Security Policy and Protective Security principles.

- Other relevant security certifications.
Security Clearance
- Valid NATO Cosmic Top Secret security clearance.
Working Location
- Location: Brunssum Netherlands.
- Work Arrangement: Full-time on-site.
Working Policy
- Employment Type: Full-time Contract.
- Contract Duration: 21 September 2026 30 December 2026.
- Total Contract Hours: 532 hours.
- Full-time on-site attendance is required.
- Must hold and maintain a valid NATO Cosmic Top Secret security clearance throughout the contract.
- Work must be performed in accordance with NATO and NCIA security policies procedures and operational requirements.
Travel
- Some travel to other NATO sites may be required
