As an EHS Compliance Lead you will be responsible for ensuring that all TaskUs sites in Mexico (Tijuana and Puebla) meet 100% of local state and federal environmental health safety and civil protection regulations laws.

This role functions as a legal and operational compliance partner. Reporting directly to the Mexico Facilities Department with a dotted line to Human Resources you will serve as a PMO for compliance implementing mitigation strategies to avoid penalties site closures and litigation risks.

Key Responsibilities

1. Regulatory & Permits Management (Local State and Federal)

  • Lead the tracking renewal and management of all critical facility permits including but not limited to:

    • Municipal Permits: Land Use Permits (Licencia de Uso de Suelo) Operating Licenses (Licencia de Operación) and Ad Permits (Permiso de Anuncios).

    • Environmental Permits: Small Waste Generator Registrations (RSU) and Wastewater Discharge Permits (Permiso de Descarga de Aguas Residuales).

    • Civil Protection and Safety: Coordinate and maintain up-to-date Civil Protection Binders (Carpeta de Protección Civil) coordinate evacuation/safety drills and ensure Fire Department certifications (Medidas de Seguridad e Incendio) and Infrared Thermographic Studies are compliant.

  • Act as the primary point of contact and representative for TaskUs during government inspections (STPS SEMARNAT Civil Protection COFEPRIS Municipal Authorities etc.) and coordinate all external vendor activities on-site.

2. NOM compliance (Official Mexican Standards)

  • Implement audit and maintain full compliance with the Normas Oficiales Mexicanas (NOM) issued by the STPS and Secretaría de Salud ensuring active management of:

    • Workplace Safety & Infrastructure: NOM-001-STPS (Workplace safety conditions) NOM-002-STPS (Fire prevention) and electrical/lighting standards (NOM-029-STPS NOM-025-STPS).

    • Health & Committee Governance: Drive the establishment and execution of the Safety and Hygiene Joint Committees (Comisiones de Seguridad e Higiene - NOM-019-STPS) and the preventive services program (NOM-030-STPS).

    • Organizational Hygiene and Well-being: Partner with HR to monitor Psychosocial Risk Factors (NOM-035-STPS) and safety conditions for Telework (NOM-037-STPS).

3. EHS Strategy Risk Mitigation & Reporting

  • Conduct comprehensive workplace risk assessments and routine site inspections to proactively identify hazards recommending immediate corrective and preventive action plans (CAPA).

  • Investigate any workplace incidents identify root causes and draft detailed legal/compliance defense files to mitigate litigation risk.

  • Collect analyze and report key performance indicators (KPIs) regarding compliance status hazards absenteeism trends and incident rates to global and regional leadership.

  • Oversee the acquisition proper distribution and training for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where applicable.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Law (with corporate/environmental focus) Environmental Engineering Industrial Engineering Occupational Health & Safety or a related field.

  • License: Valid and active Occupational Health and Safety License (Cédula Profesional and registrations as Agente Capacitador Externo / Tercer Acreditado are highly valued).

Experience:

  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience leading EHS and regulatory compliance departments in Mexico.

  • Proven experience in BPO Tech Shared Services or highly regulated service/manufacturing industries (experience in Tijuana or Puebla industrial sectors is a plus).

  • Extensive experience successfully managing and solving government inspection audits (STPS Civil Protection SEMARNAT)

  • Technical Skills:

    • Deep understanding of the Mexican Federal Labor Law (LFT) environmental laws and the STPS NOM framework.

    • Proficiency in tracking systems Excel Power BI or project management tools (to operate as a PMO).

    • Language: Professional working proficiency in both Spanish and English.

  • Assertiveness and Negotiation: Ability to interact with governmental inspectors and legal counsels firmly and diplomatically.

  • Project Management (PMO Mindset): Highly organized capable of keeping strict timelines for compliance trackers.

  • Problem-Solving & Risk Mitigation: Analytical thinking focused on avoiding fines closures and litigations.

  • Collaboration & Adaptability: Ability to navigate reporting lines across two distinct departments (Facilities and HR) and manage diverse stakeholder expectations.

Location: On-site (Tijuana or Puebla) with travel availability between sites as needed.
