Data Engineer (SQL-focused)

Job Summary
We are looking for a Data Engineer with strong SQL skills to support the analysis and validation of an existing data ecosystem. Rather than building new data pipelines or designing new architectures this role focuses on understanding how the current implementation works validating existing data processes and helping document the technical landscape.
This role will work closely with technical leadership and cross-functional team members to ensure the documented solution accurately reflects how the system is implemented today.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze existing SQL code stored procedures ETL jobs and data transformations.
- Trace data through existing pipelines to understand how information moves across the platform.
- Validate that business rules are correctly implemented within the existing technical solution.
- Help document the current implementation including data flows transformations table relationships and technical dependencies.
- Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to validate technical findings and support discovery activities.
- Review existing data processes to confirm system behavior and identify implementation details.
- Support technical documentation by providing insight into how the current data platform operates.
Qualifications :
Required:
- Strong SQL skills including complex queries CTEs window functions joins and stored procedures.
- Experience working with IBM DataStage or similar enterprise ETL tools.
- Experience analyzing existing ETL processes data transformations and relational databases.
- Understanding of how data flows through enterprise data platforms and ETL pipelines.
- Ability to analyze and understand existing implementations rather than only building new ones.
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts and table relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Nice to Have:
- Background in marketing or customer data environments.
- Experience with legacy systems or modernization initiatives.
- Experience creating technical documentation or participating in discovery phases of data projects.
What about languages
- You will need excellent written and verbal English for clear and effective communication with the team.
How much experience must I have
- In order to thrive in this role you must have at least 1 year of experience in data engineering or similar roles.
