AWS Cloud Engineer

This role will be responsible for supporting troubleshooting and optimizing CIGNAs Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments across multiple regions ensuring secure compliant and highly available cloud services for our international business units.
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with CIGNAs Cloud Center of Excellence security and application teams as well as Microsofts Unified Support and engineering resources.

Key Responsibilities

Deployment Project (initial secondment)

o Work as a Subject Matter Expert with the architecture team to design the cloud infrastructure to the highest security and supportability levels. Setting out the ongoing support requirements on day 1.

o Design deploy and manage scalable secure and resilient cloud infrastructure on AWS. o Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps GitHub Actions and Git. o Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for consistent and automated provisioning.

o Collaborate with development and operations teams to automate cloud provisioning and configuration. o Monitor AWS environments for performance cost optimization and security compliance.

AWS Platform Support:

o Provide Tier 2/3 support for AWS infrastructure services and workloads (EC2 S3 IAM Lambda VPC CloudFormation and CloudWatch security and monitoring).

o Troubleshoot incidents perform root cause analysis and drive timely resolution of issues impacting business operations. o Manage AWS subscriptions resource groups RBAC and policy compliance in line with CIGNAs global standards.

Operational Excellence:

o Monitor system health performance and cost optimisation using AWS CloudWatch CloudTrail and AWS Cost Explorer.

o Implement and maintain backup disaster recovery and high-availability configurations. o Support automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) initiatives (e.g. Bash Terraform PowerShell).

Security & Compliance:

o Ensure compliance with CIGNAs security privacy and regulatory requirements (e.g. HIPAA GDPR local data residency).

o Support implementation of security controls vulnerability management and incident response in AWS.

o Collaborate with security and compliance teams to maintain and audit cloud controls.

Collaboration & Escalation:

o Work closely with CIGNAs application data and DevOps teams to support deployments and resolve cross-functional issues.

o Serve as a liaison with Amazon Support and escalate critical incidents as needed.

o Participate in global on-call rotation and support coverage for international time zones.

Continuous Improvement:

o Contribute to documentation runbooks and knowledge base articles for AWS operations. o Participate in post-incident reviews and drive process improvements.

o Stay current with AWS platform updates best practices and emerging technologies. Required Skills & Experience

Minimum 3 years and above of relevant cloud engineering / AWS experience.

Proven enterprise-level skills including governance processes.

Strong knowledge of CI/CD concepts and hands-on experience with Azure DevOps Git and containerization tools (e.g. Docker Kubernetes).

Proficiency in Terraform for infrastructure provisioning and management.

Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python Bash or PowerShell.

Understanding of cloud security principles and identity/access management.

Experience with monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Dynatrace Prometheus Grafana Splunk).

Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Experience of working with ServiceNow JIRA and Confluence Preferred Qualifications

AWS certifications (e.g. AWS Certified Solutions Architect DevOps Engineer). Experience with multi-cloud environments (AWS and Azure).

Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevSecOps practices
