COWI is proud to offer an exciting leadership opportunity for a Regional Bridge Engineering Manager (Alberta) based in our established Edmonton office. This role offers a compelling chance to manage and develop COWIs bridge engineering presence in Alberta while partnering closely with technical leaders and bridge teams across Canada.


In this pivotal position you will guide and develop a skilled team of bridge engineers primarily located in Edmonton and Calgary as well as contribute to the business development efforts and project delivery of bridge engineering projects in Alberta. Your guidance will be essential in executing a diverse array of bridge infrastructure projects promoting innovation at every stage.


You will play an important part in COWIs leadership team directly reporting to the Vice President Head of Engineering Canada focusing on enhancing the capabilities of your team. Collaborating with fellow managers you will play a strategic role in growing our Alberta practice. Your deep understanding of your teams skills and development needs will be critical in supporting talent acquisition retention and ongoing professional growth within the company. Additionally you will take part in business development and oversee both the commercial and technical delivery of bridge projects in Alberta using your skills to ensure project excellence expand client relationships and support the sustained growth of COWIs bridge engineering practice.


Your key responsibilities will include:


People Management:

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the Alberta team (recruitment performance reviews managing performance) creating a culture of growth and collaboration.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and communicate a clear vision and strategy for the team.
  • Build a diverse and inclusive team serving as an ambassador for COWIs values.


Project Delivery:

  • Manage endtoend project delivery for bridge engineering consulting assignments from initiation and planning through execution monitoring & control and closure.
  • Manage project scope budgets schedules resourcing and deliverables supported by trained project coordinators and a national team of professionals.
  • Use internal financial and project tracking systems to monitor and manage project performance forecasts and profitability.
  • Ensure the preparation of engineering drawings specifications and tender documents follow per the Company Quality System and client requirements.


As a Member of the Canada Leadership Team:

  • Participate in strategy meetings to contribute and implement COWIs strategic priorities.
  • Contribute to business development and marketing efforts in Alberta pursuing project opportunities and representing the Company in external settings such as technical committees conferences seminars professional bodies and business groups
  • Establish and nurture lasting connections with key clients to advance growth in the Alberta market.

On top of that you will have:


  • A Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • A Professional Engineer designation (.) in Alberta or can obtain within 6 months
  • Experience leading and supervising people with skills in mentoring coaching and providing constructive feedback to team members.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in Project Management in the consulting environment in the bridge engineering sector.
  • Experience in leading bridge projects with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors the City of Edmonton and the City of Calgary.
  • Well-developed business acumen and negotiation skills along with a history of project completion and success.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills coupled with effective time management abilities and the capacity to thrive in an environment with evolving priorities and innovation.
