Job Summary:
The Laboratory of Virus Host Dialogue (Viralogue lab: in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology is seeking to hire a senior laboratory science professional. The position will report directly to the PI (Sidd Krishnamurthy) involve both maintaining and creating laboratory infrastructure and and has reserved time (approximately 50%) to contribute to other aspects of the labs research such as innovating new tools/techniques completing projects or conducting experiments in collaboration with other members in the group. The research component can be structured flexibly to match the chosen candidates background interests and skills. This would be an excellent position for someone who enjoys working in a lab conducting experiments and has a strong interest in a longer-term position. People who have prior experience handling mice are preferred.
The mission of the Viralogue lab is to leverage the interplay between viral elements and the enteric environment to better human health. To do this we use mouse models integrating techniques from mucosal immunology molecular virology and computational genetics to understand 1) how the endogenous virome of the intestine influences exogenous viral infection 2) how intestinal viruses evade antiviral strategies and 3) how subversion of intestinal defenses changes the host tropism potential of individual viruses. Candidates will have the opportunity to learn and innovate with a diversity of techniques in both leading and supporting projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain mouse colony (coordinating weaning breeding and crosses).
Maintain Inventory of lab consumables including ensuring reagents are stocked and reordered when necessary.
Maintaining common lab equipment and ensuring all lab members have access.
Building working relationships with IACUC and EH&S staff to facilitate inspections and updating the labs IACUC protocols training documentation SOPs and EH&S compliance documentation.
Designing and performing experiments and analyzing data from those experiments experimental techniques range from mouse infections/dissections flow cytometry nucleic acid isolation qPCR/RNA-sequencing genetic manipulation of viruses and in vitro cell culture.
Attending regular lab and departmental meetings

Entry Level:
Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis.
Intermediate Level:
Bachelors degree in biology molecular biology chemistry genetics or related field.
A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year for year basis.
One (1) year professional level research experience.
Senior Level:

Previous experience with flow cytometry molecular biology/biochemistry.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
Demonstrate that they are well-organized reliable independent and possess considerable attention to detail.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.
