The UWC-USA program a two-year experience that integrates our Academic UWC CAS (Creativity Activity and Service) and Residential curricula prepares students to serve as catalysts for greater unity peace and sustainability in the world. We support students in the practice of our mission during their two years on campus and challenge them to live our mission for a lifetime.
This position supervises all drivers and transportation staff oversees all vehicle care (including completing minor repairs and cleaning) and coordinates all ground transportation on to and from campus. This position also oversees all vehicle usage ensuring compliance with vehicle usage policies and procedures.
Position Responsibilities
Transportation Responsibilities
Coordinates ground transportation of students to/from campus and/or other designated areas
Works closely with the Director of Residential Life & Student Safety to plan for student transportation to and from campus in early August December March and late May. This includes communication with students and family members to assist with collection of necessary travel information.
Obtains information from various members of the community on transportation needs for the academic year and plans transportation to meet those needs
Oversees transportation staff to meet the schools transportation needs
Performs personnel functions (e.g. interviewing evaluating supervising etc) for the purpose of maintaining safety enhancing productivity and achieving department objectives
Maintains direct contact with employed drivers staff and other transportation providers
Develops safety policy and procedures for the Transportation department and enforces those policies for all vehicle users
Coordinates and provides training related to transportation including safety and driver training.
Ensures drivers have safe vehicles active and working gas cards and emergency kits/plans of action in case of emergency on the road.
Coordinate and process all required local state and federal agency transportation filings
Coordinate and process all campus vehicle license and registration filings
Maintains smooth efficient operations of vehicle GPS and or Dashcam systems
Maintains transportation software for scheduling and tracking trips and ensures it is used consistently
Works on call works shifts weekends and holidays as needed.
Prepares yearly operating budget in conjunction with the Senior Director of Operations and Safety
Responsible for care and tracking of all keys and gas cards
Responsible for maintaining driver records
Responsible for investigating accident or other safety issues and reporting results suggested improvements to Sr Director of Operations and Safety
Makes professional proposals and suggestions for the timing of purchasing new vehicles or retiring old vehicles (vehicle replacement plan) software needs etc
Process paperwork for payment and tracking expenses in a timely manner
Maintains files of all ownership documents in good order
Other duties as assigned or needed
Maintenance Responsibilities
Establish vehicle inspection and maintenance schedules to maintain vehicles in excellent operational condition.
Review vehicle trip inspection sheets and respond to any noted issues
Conduct routine light maintenance work (topping up fluids checking tires replacing wipers etc) with an aim toward safety vehicle functionality and longevity
Schedule maintenance to have issues fixed in a timely and cost-effective manner
Coordinates and or completes cleaning of vehicles in time for trips
Reviews and approves estimates for repair or maintenance jobs - in coordination with other staff as necessary
Keep logs of maintenance work showing outstanding and completed issues
Maintain good relationships with maintenance shops
Advise drivers on good vehicle use to reduce damage and prolong vehicle life
Leadership Responsibilities
All UWC-USA employees are expected to provide varying levels of leadership in order to support the UWC mission. Examples include but are not limited to:
Actively participating and contributing to committee or task force assignments providing leadership in campus-wide events or initiatives strategic planning efforts in the experiential education program the dormitories dining hall and/or in physical plant initiatives.
Initiating strategic discussions and sharing thoughtful and innovative ideas with your co-workers for carrying out the UWC mission and successfully completing day to day work assignments.

Position Qualifications
Minimum Job Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent experience relating to the mechanical and transportation ideally in a educational environment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies on and off campus.
Ability to work with and supervise people effectively.
Ability to plan coordinate execute and document specific administrative and management functions in alignment with the long term goals of the department.
Must have a valid NM drivers license insurable by the schools insurance carrier and either have or be willing to pursue a CDL in a reasonable amount of time.
2 or more years of increasingly responsible experience in vehicle maintenance and or fleet management
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required
Computer (Google Suite)and cell phone literate
Must be able to operate hand tools testing instruments and small power tools common to the trade
Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
Ability to work with little or no supervision given proper instructions.
Ability to read and write and to follow detailed written instructions.
Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities.
Ability to supervise other workers to complete needed activities
Must be able to work outdoors in all types of weather.
Moderate physical activity. Requires standing and/or walking for more than two (2) hours per day and occaisional time on back underneath vehicles for inspections or maintenance.
Work in cramped work spaces that require getting into awkward positions and inside around and under vehicles such as trucks cars and vans
Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which requires following basic safety precautions.
Frequently exposed to contaminants such as antifreeze fluids and chemical degreasers.
Frequently wear protective gear such as gloves goggles or earplugs.
Must be able/willing to work in an environment that has household pets.
Must be able/willing to work odd and inconsistent hours to meet the transportation demands of the school
