Our team builds and operates the software that powers robotics and automation systems across Amazon Japans fulfillment centers. From package conveyance control and robotic arm systems to automated consolidation and packing machines we design deploy and operate solutions that move millions of packages reliably at scale. As Amazon continues to invest significantly in next-generation automation technology in Japan our team is at the center of that growth solving complex engineering challenges that directly impact how quickly and reliably customers receive their orders.
In this role you will lead software development across multiple robotics and automation programs including package conveyance control systems robotic arm control automated consolidation systems automated packing machines and machine control platforms. Beyond hands-on technical leadership you will shape the teams technical direction define architecture visions that span multiple years and own design decisions that determine how packages flow through our network. You will work closely with global engineering teams bringing Japans operational insights to global platform design while adapting global solutions to meet local requirements.

Technical Strategy and Development of Robotics/Automation Control Software (50%)
Define software architecture for robotics and automation systems in FC environments and lead design and development. Target systems include automated conveyance devices picking devices labeling devices packing machines and robots. Lead new development and modification of WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) and WCS (Warehouse Control Systems) and design integration interfaces with various equipment. Define and drive cross-organizational technical roadmaps and own Design Documents.
Collaboration with Global Teams and Exercising Technical Influence (20%)
Collaborate with global software teams build consensus with technical stakeholders and drive technical strategy and design development. Actively participate in and lead global technical proposal and review processes reflecting Japan-specific requirements into global standards.
Security and Quality Management (10%)
Practice secure development and lead design and security reviews. Lead the definition of security and coding standards define operational metrics and drive continuous quality improvement.
AI Utilization and Technical Innovation (10%)
Strategically evaluate AI/ML technology application areas lead Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and define criteria for production deployment. Drive software verification using simulation technology and evaluate adoption of new technologies.
Mentoring and Team Development (10%)
Provide technical mentoring to team engineers and drive adoption of engineering best practices. Serve as a role model in practicing Amazon Leadership Principles further building on the teams strengths and reinforcing a team culture of high quality and ownership.

- 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5 years of programming using a modern programming language such as Java C or C# including object-oriented design experience
- Experience as a mentor tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Business-level communication skills in both Japanese and English
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 5 years of experience leading system design or architecture including defining team-level technical strategy
- 7 years of full software development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing and operations experience
- Experience implementing AWS/cloud services
- Masters degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Knowledge of material handling systems or logistics systems
- Experience in software development for robotics or automation systems including control system software (PLC device drivers or BIOS)
- Professional experience in project management including technical specification negotiation and consensus-building with external vendors
