We are looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to support the development of ORiSs laser-based wireless power transmission systems for both defence and space applications.

Working closely with the Lead Mechanical Engineer you will contribute to the mechanical development of LOONA as it evolves from an advanced prototype into a robust and deployable product while also supporting the design and integration of the mechanical subsystems for ORiSs inter-satellite WPT mission.

This is a hands-on engineering role covering the full development cycle from early concepts and CAD design to manufacturing assembly testing and system integration. You will collaborate with the Optical Electronics Pointing Thermal and Systems Engineering teams to transform technical requirements into reliable mechanical solutions.

What You Will Do

  • Support the Lead Mechanical Engineer in the design and development of mechanical systems for ORiSs space and defence programmes.
  • Contribute to the evolution of LOONA from prototype to product improving its mechanical architecture robustness manufacturability portability and ease of assembly.
  • Support the design of structures mechanisms optical mounts enclosures interfaces and assemblies for the inter-satellite WPT mission.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models manufacturing drawings bills of materials and mechanical documentation.
  • Perform preliminary structural calculations tolerance analyses material selection and mechanical sizing activities.
  • Work with suppliers and manufacturing partners to support component production and resolve technical issues.
  • Participate directly in prototype assembly mechanical integration laboratory testing and field trials.
  • Support functional vibration thermal and environmental verification activities.
  • Collaborate with Optical Electronics Pointing Thermal Manufacturing and Systems Engineering teams.

What We Are Looking For

  • MSc in Mechanical Aerospace Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
  • Up to 2 years of experience in mechanical design including relevant university research or personal projects.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles materials manufacturing processes and technical drawing.
  • Proficiency with a professional CAD tool such as SolidWorks CATIA Creo or Siemens NX.
  • Basic knowledge of structural analysis tolerancing and mechanical sizing.
  • Hands-on attitude and willingness to participate in assembly testing and field activities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Professional proficiency in English.

Nice to Have

  • Experience designing prototypes or products for aerospace defence robotics automotive or industrial applications.
  • Familiarity with FEA tools such as ANSYS Abaqus or equivalent.
  • Experience with precision mechanisms optical mounts gimbals pointing systems or electromechanical assemblies.
  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing and assembly machining sheet metal additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity with lightweight structures composites thermal design or space environments.
  • Knowledge of ECSS standards and space qualification processes.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly integration testing or field operations.
