Tallaght University Hospital (TUH) is a model 4 voluntary academic teaching hospital partnered with Trinity College and situated in south west Dublin. With a staff of over 4000 people from 63 different countries it provides both acute and tertiary care to an increasing population of circa 800000 people and is a provider of local regional and national specialties. It is also a National Urology Centre the second largest provider of dialysis services in the country Pelvic and Acetabulum National Centre and a designated Trauma Unit.

The Hospital is part of the newly established HSE Dublin & Midlands Region which serves a population of over 1.2 million across seven counties and operates under the governance of an independent Board of Directors who give their time on a voluntary basis. Purpose of the Role:
The Dietetic service to Older Persons spans across Acute inpatients the Charlie O Toole Day Unit the Emergency Department (GEDI Team) and our off site locations. Whilst each senior Dietitian is assigned to one or more areas seniors have the option to rotate through each area over time.

GEDI: The purpose of the Gerontology Emergency Department Intervention (GEDI) Team is to address the health care needs of persons over 75 years attending the Emergency Department (ED.) The Dietitian is an integral part of this team.

Overview of Role:

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients within the designated area
Provide expert nutritional advice for the multidisciplinary team and actively engage with the team which includes attending huddles rounds and meetings relevant to the area
Participate in the design and implementation of protocols/procedures for nutritional screening referral assessment and intervention
Record statistical information and produce reports as required
Monitor and evaluate service provision and report on same periodically
Supervise and support junior staff members and Dietetic assistants where relevant
Attend Departmental meetings in TUH on a regular basis
Participate in the clinical training of Student Dietitians on placement in TUH
Contribute to the Departments upskilling program for Dietitians which will provide an opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to work in other specialties
Be responsible for his/her own professional development and keep abreast of developments in Nutrition and Dietetics
Contribute to the enhancement of clinical practice through participation in quality improvement initiatives audit and research
Contribute to the development implementation and evaluation of standards and policies relating to the Nutrition & Dietetic service
Carry out other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned by the Manager of Nutrition & Dietetics

Qualifications & Experience required

Must Have:

Be registered as a Dietitian by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU
Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Dietitians Register maintained by the Dietitians Registration Board at CORU
Have at least 3 years full time (or equivalent) post qualification clinical dietetic experience
Be proficient in the provision of artificial nutrition support (Enteral and Parenteral)
Have experience working with older persons

Desirable:

Have experience working in the Emergency Department setting
Be a member of the Irish Nutrition & Dietetic Institute

Reward & Recognition

Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales grade code 3395 - 65197 by 9increments to 76767

These particulars are subject to change in line with overall public pay policy. Point on scale allocated is based on relevant HSE Circulars.

The appointment is fulltime permanent and pensionable
The annual leave entitlement is 29 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year
Normal working hours are 35 hours worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement
