Abbott Diabetes Care has opened a new site in Kilkenny that is at the forefront of Diabetes care with the latest technology to manufacture FreeStyle blood glucose test strips and FreeStyle Sensors for use in diabetes management. Among Abbott Diabetes Care leading brands are the FreeStyle Precision FreeStyle Lite and FreeStyle Libre systems.

As a Controls Engineer you will apply your expertise in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes to support the design implementation and continuous improvement of automated control systems. Working within a regulated environment you will leverage your technical knowledge to ensure process reliability compliance and operational excellence. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining solutions that enhance manufacturing efficiency productivity and performance while supporting business and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply technical expertise in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes to support operational and project objectives.

  • Implement monitor and maintain process systems to ensure efficient reliable and compliant manufacturing operations.

  • Develop calculate and organise data for complex process flow diagrams including instrumentation and control requirements.

  • Create and evaluate process and unit operation models to optimise performance and productivity.

  • Define process sequences and prepare detailed equipment specifications operating procedures and work instructions.

  • Conduct process testing monitoring and analysis throughout production evaluating variables such as temperature pressure density and viscosity.

  • Diagnose troubleshoot and resolve process and equipment issues providing effective engineering solutions to minimise downtime.

  • Ensure all processes procedures and documentation comply with applicable regulatory quality and safety standards.

  • Support root cause investigations deviation management and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives and enhance operational performance.

Education & Experience

  • Associate Degree Diploma or equivalent qualification in Engineering Process Engineering Biotechnology Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience within a pharmaceutical biotechnology biologics or regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Experience supporting manufacturing processes process improvements or production operations is desirable.

  • Knowledge of process control instrumentation troubleshooting and compliance requirements within a regulated industry would be an advantage.

  • Strong analytical problem-solving and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
