Most civil and structural designers spend their days on one slice of one project type inside a consultancy big enough that nobody outside their team knows their name.
This is close to the opposite.
A HV/MV electrical engineering business in Kildare recently brought its civil design in-house and its become one of the fastest-growing parts of the company. The team is small a handful of people and growing because the work keeps coming. So the person joining now isnt filling a seat. Youd help build the team shape how it runs and mentor the graduates coming in behind you.
If youve ever thought you could run a design function better than the place youre in now this is the role where you get to.
The work
You wont be stuck on one project type. It runs across:
Substations: transformer bunds switchgear foundations new and existing substation buildings.
Solar parks wind farms and battery storage feeding Irelands grid.
Site infrastructure: drainage roadways cable basements site development works.
Integrated civil and electrical design end to end on projects that actually get built.
Day to day
Preparing and reviewing civil/structural drawings in AutoCAD (Revit a real plus).
Running and checking design calcs including drainage and site development.
Producing technical reports specifications and material schedules.
Coordinating with MEP engineers contractors and clients.
Supporting construction with site visits as-builts and handover docs.
Mentoring graduate engineers and checking their calcs.
What youll need
Three things genuinely matter. If youve got them talk to us:
A degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Level 8 minimum) with postgraduate design experience inside an engineering consultancy.
3 years designing real structures across the main materials ideally on electrical infrastructure.
Working knowledge of AutoCAD plus Eurocodes and Irish/UK standards.
Helpful not essential: Revit Robot Structural Analysis or similar FE/frame software drainage software a Level 9 degree Chartered status.
Whats on offer
Pension matched to 4% from day one. 23 days leave rising to 25. Strong family leave (26 weeks paid maternity plus paternity and adoptive). 10 paid sick days. Virtual GP care. Death-in-service and income protection. Relocation and visa support handled in-house for international hires.
This is a design role so its office-based. Formal hybrid (a day a week) opens up after six months and a successful probation. Easy commute: about 50 minutes from Dublin against the traffic plenty of parking.
How to respond
Send your CV even if its not bang up to date and well set up a short no-pressure call to talk through fit. Weve been clear about the three must-haves. If youve got them youll hear back quickly.
