Job Summary

INTECH Process Automation is seeking a skilled Fiber Optical Technician to join our Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team responsible for the installation splicing termination testing troubleshooting and maintenance of fiber-optic communication infrastructure. The role ensures reliable optical links through proper fiber preparation OTDR testing optical loss measurement clean terminations labelling protection and documentation.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform installation inspection maintenance repair and testing of fiber-optic communication links.
  • Prepare strip splice terminate and dress fiber-optic cables using approved methods and tools.
  • Perform fiber inspection cleaning end-face preparation and connector maintenance.
  • Conduct optical power insertion-loss continuity and link testing.
  • Perform OTDR testing to identify fiber faults splice losses reflections breaks and abnormal conditions.
  • Install and maintain fiber patch panels ODFs splice trays enclosures connectors and termination hardware.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fiber link failures high losses damaged fibers connectors and termination issues.
  • Support fiber commissioning network tie-ins equipment installation and restoration activities.
  • Maintain proper fiber labeling identification routing bend-radius protection and physical segregation.
  • Prepare and submit OTDR traces optical loss results test reports and fiber-link records.
  • Maintain fiber splicing machines OTDRs optical power meters inspection tools cleaning kits and consumables.
  • Ensure fiber terminations and enclosures remain clean protected secure and traceable.
  • Coordinate with Network ICSS Instrumentation IT/OT Operations Engineering and OEM/vendor teams.
  • Record fiber repairs splices test results defects and maintenance activities in CMMS and approved documentation.
  • Comply with PTW LOTO HSE safe fiber handling laser safety and site requirements.

Requirements:

To Be Successful in This Role You Must Have:

  • Technical Diploma/ITI in Instrumentation Electronics Automation Electrical IT or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant oil & gas/industrial experience including at least 3 years as a Fiber Optical Technician.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber preparation fusion splicing mechanical splicing termination and repair.
  • Competent in OTDR optical power meter insertion loss continuity and fiber-link testing.
  • Experience with fiber patch panels ODFs splice trays enclosures connectors and termination hardware.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber cleaning inspection end-face preparation bend radius routing and safe handling practices.
  • Ability to interpret OTDR traces and optical loss test results and identify fiber faults.
  • Experience with fiber labeling cable identification documentation and traceability.
  • Ability to troubleshoot fiber breaks high attenuation poor splices connector contamination and link failures.
  • Experience supporting commissioning tie-ins restoration and industrial network maintenance.
  • Ability to maintain test equipment calibration records splicing tools and consumables.
  • Good understanding of PTW LOTO HSE laser safety and site work practices.
  • Relevant fiber-optic certification or OEM training is highly desirable.
