We are looking for a highly skilled Structural Specialist with experience in ship structural analysis finite element modelling and naval architecture. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical foundation experience developing practical engineering solutions and the ability to manage research and development projects. You will be comfortable working with clients contributing to industry standards and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to support the safe and efficient design and construction of marine structures.

A full-time permanent role

The role

  • Develop and maintain ship rules regulations and structural assessment procedures.
  • Support research initiatives related to ship structural strength and fatigue.
  • Perform complex structural assessments and provide specialist technical advice.
  • Conduct and review static and dynamic finite element analyses.
  • Develop practical methodologies and solutions for ship design and construction challenges.
  • Manage technical and R&D projects ensuring delivery within budget and timelines.
  • Prepare and review technical reports procedures and engineering documentation.
  • Present findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assess project scope effort costs and commercial requirements.
  • Support service improvement through client feedback and business development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with technical teams plan approval offices software teams and consultancy groups.
  • Mentor and coach colleagues supporting knowledge sharing and technical development.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures industry standards accreditation requirements and health and safety obligations.

What you bring

  • Degree in Engineering Physical Science or a related discipline or equivalent marine qualifications with relevant seagoing experience.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status or actively working towards professional registration.
  • Good knowledge of classification rules international standards and ship structural assessment practices.
  • Direct experience with static and dynamic finite element analysis including pre- and post-processing.
  • Sound understanding of naval architecture principles and ship design and construction processes.
  • Knowledge of structural analysis methods load assessment and marine/offshore structures.
  • Experience conducting technical research and developing fit-for-purpose engineering solutions.
  • Ability to automate engineering calculations and workflows using Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Experience producing detailed technical reports and documentation in English.
  • Demonstrated project management experience and understanding of project delivery processes.
  • Good client-facing stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working with shipyards ship designers or related marine industry stakeholders.
  • Additional experience in seakeeping thermal stress vibration or Engineering Criticality Analysis (ECA) would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated dedication to ongoing professional growth safety and technical excellence.
