Job Summary: As a Staff Engineer you will lead the design and development of core systems that drive JioStars advertising capabilities - from ad delivery and targeting to measurement and optimization. Youll own large-scale projects end to end operate with autonomy and play a key role in shaping the architecture and future direction of our high-throughput low-latency systems. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on solving hard distributed systems problems and mentoring others toward engineering excellence.

About the Team: JioHotstar is building the advertising platform that will power commerce-led advertising across some of Indias largest digital consumer team sits at the intersection of AdTech e-commerce data and monetisation. The goal is to help retail platforms unlock high-intent advertising inventory across the full shopping journey - home pages category pages product detail pages cart order confirmation flows and personalised placements - while giving advertisers measurable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Design and build scalable resilient microservices that power JioStars ad tech stack

Own end-to-end delivery of complex backend projects from technical design to deployment and monitoring

Write high-quality maintainable code and ensure rigorous testing and fault tolerance

Drive architectural decisions and influence long-term engineering strategy for the team

Collaborate closely with Product Managers Data Scientists and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into tech solutions

Take ownership of operational excellence including performance tuning incident response and root cause analysis

Mentor junior engineers conduct technical deep dives and code reviews and foster a culture of knowledge sharing

Skills and attributes for success:

Proficiency in Java Golang or Python

Experience designing and building distributed systems at scale

Strong understanding of storage systems query performance and caching strategies

Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) messaging systems (Kafka) and CI/CD pipelines

Proven ability to work autonomously prioritize tasks and manage delivery timelines in fast-paced environments

You are passionate about growing engineers and leading by example

Curious about how advertising systems work and how to optimize them for user and business outcomes

Preferred education and experience:

Bachelors/Masters in Computer Science or a related field with 6-9 years of experience in backend development
