The Position

Would you like to contribute to the development of next-generation biotherapeutics

At Boehringer Ingelheims research site in Biberach Germany you will contribute to the advanced characterization of next-generation biotherapeutics and help deepen our understanding of their structure-function relationships.
This position is ideal for a scientifically curious researcher with expertise in therapeutic protein characterization who enjoys structuring complex datasets collaborating across disciplines and developing projects from concept to implementation. You will work closely with experts in mass spectrometry physicochemical analytics structural biology bioinformatics data science and CMC project teams. Together you will establish a foundation for the predictive and data-driven development of biologics.

Your research will focus on scientific practical and project-specific questions that align with the departments goals and contribute to Boehringer Ingelheims innovative and growing pipeline.

Tasks & responsibilities
  • As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Structure-Function Analytics (SFA) group you will leverage your expertise and enthusiasm to drive mass spectrometry and protein physicochemical chromatographical and electrophoretic characterization focusing on structure-function this context you will focus on the advanced characterization of innovative therapeutic proteins.
  • Leading and driving a scientific innovative project you focus on structure-function relationships and predictive assessment/s ensuring their effective implementation within our interdisciplinary team.
  • You approach scientific questions from the biopharmaceutical characterization with curiosity and an open mind thoroughly investigating underlying causalities identify actionable insights and translate them into impactful contributions for your team or organization.
  • Collaborating with internal and external (international) stakeholders including data scientists and digital experts you explore application solutions AI-enabled interpretation approaches similarity profiling and in silico prediction concepts.
  • Driving project planning milestone tracking stakeholder communication and scientific decision-making you work in close alignment with the laboratory head and cross-functional collaborators.
  • Preparation of high-quality scientific summaries presentations recommendations and publication-ready outputs for internal and external audiences motivates and excites you.
Requirements
  • A university degree in biochemistry protein chemistry analytical chemistry bioinformatics structural biology pharmaceutical sciences or a related scientific discipline with a completed PhD
  • Strong scientific background in therapeutic protein or biologics characterization ideally including monoclonal antibodies antibody-derived formats recombinant proteins or other complex biologic modalities
  • Hands-on expertise with advanced analytical technologies including mass spectrometry-based protein analytics (peptide mapping intact and subunit level) chromatography (SEC IEX RP HIC) and related advanced analytical technologies including corresponding relevant data evaluation software packages such as Chromeleon Empower and UniFi. Practical experience with the GeneData Biologics Suite (such as Expressionist Screener Chromatics) would be an advantage.
  • Comprehensive understanding of structure-function relationships of biotherapeutics higher-order structure protein stability degradation pathways molecular liabilities critical quality attributes and functional characterization of biologics
  • Natural curiosity for scientific exploration conceptual thinking scientific rigor and enthusiasm for building new approaches that connect experimental protein analytics with digital and predictive technologies
  • Fluency in both German and English written and spoken
