Aircraft Designer (mfd)
Job Summary
The PACE is fast. The expectations are high. The contribution matters. Working at TYTAN is more than a job this is a mission. We push boundaries think big and hold ourselves to the highest standard. Our mission and values guide everything we do and were looking for people who are driven by ownership embrace challenges and are energized by meaningful work. If youre motivated by impact and thrive in dynamic environments youll fit right in.
At TYTAN we aim to set a global standard in autonomous air defense with AI-driven cost-efficient systems that counter unmanned aerial threats at scale. We protect people. We protect critical infrastructure. We protect European sovereignty.
We are looking for an Aircraft Designer to shape the next generation of our interceptor drones. You will turn operational requirements into interceptor concepts size and compare configurations and lead the trade studies that decide what we build. You will own the early design from first sketch to flight test working closely with our GNC autonomy software electronics and systems engineering teams and see your designs fly and improve within short iteration cycles.
Translate operational requirements (target drone classes engagement range reaction time altitude band weather limits) into interceptor concepts
Develop and compare configurations such as multicopter fixed-wing hybrid VTOL and tube- or rail-launched designs
Size the interceptor for high dash speed rapid acceleration high thrust-to-weight and agility balanced against endurance and loiter time
Run constraint and mission analysis covering launch climb pursuit terminal engagement and recovery or expendable use
Size and integrate propulsion: electric motors propellers ESCs and batteries or small turbojets and boosters for faster concepts
Produce first-order aerodynamic mass CG and performance estimates including turn rates and load factors
Plan packaging and integration of the seeker and sensors (EO/IR radar) flight controller datalink and effector payload
Define launch and recovery concepts suited to the deployment mode: fixed site vehicle-mounted or portable
Lead trade studies on cost per intercept reusability vs. expendability and producibility at scale
Consider robustness to electronic warfare GNSS denial and harsh environments early in the concept
Support flight testing use test data to calibrate design methods and iterate quickly
Work closely with GNC autonomy software electronics and systems engineering teams
Document design decisions and support customer presentations proposals and tender responses
Bachelors or Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Solid understanding of aircraft design methods aerodynamics flight mechanics and performance
Experience designing small UAVs ideally multicopter fixed-wing or hybrid VTOL
Strong knowledge of propulsion sizing (motors propellers batteries power systems jet engines)
Programming skills in Python or MATLAB for sizing tools and trade studies
Familiarity with tools such as OpenVSP XFLR5 AVL or basic CFD
Understanding of flight dynamics and simulation such as 6-DOF models or Simulink
Hands-on mindset with prototyping and flight test experience
Systems thinking and the ability to make sound decisions with limited data
Clear communication of trade-offs to engineers management and customers
Ability to work in a fast-paced startup or defense environment with short iteration cycles
Experience in defense cUAS loitering munitions or target drones
Knowledge of guidance and control seekers or autonomous target tracking
Experience with design for manufacturing and low-cost high-volume production
