Job Summary

Description

Do you want to contribute to the green energy transition Are you excited about developing intelligent power electronic converters and drives with AI and edge computing technologies If you are looking to grow your career in either academia or R&D we invite you to join us!

We invite applications for multiple 2-year Postdoc positions that will contribute to the development of a new generation of embedded intelligence within grid-connected power converters and variable-frequency motor drives with edge computing and machine learning capabilities.

The Postdoc positions are part of the European Research Council (ERC) project ARTEFACT and the Energiteknologiske Udviklings- og Demonstrationsprogram (EUDP) project SCOPE.

These projects involve complex scientific and engineering challenges and bring together a range of stakeholders. While the research topics are ambitious you will be part of a collaborative and supportive team environment where knowledge sharing and teamwork are highly valued. Together we create an environment that fosters innovation learning and impactful research.

The two projects are closely aligned and address complementary parts of the same vision: making power converters and drives smarter more reliable and more grid-supportive by embedding intelligence directly on the edge. ARTEFACT (ERC) develops privacy-preserving and decentralized online learning methods deployed in converters/drives so that fleets of motor applications (e.g. pumps fans compressors) can self-quantify and aggregate flexibility for grid services with formal uncertainty awareness while sharing only what is necessary. SCOPE (EUDP) focuses on industrially scalable condition-based monitoring (CBM) of rotating machinery that is simple to deploy and scale by running plug-and-play analytics inside modern drives or on a plant controller using only electrical signals already measured by the drive while minimizing data export and supporting modern cybersecurity requirements. Across both projects the goal is to combine advanced power-electronic control with edge computation and ML so converters and drives can continuously learn from operation detect degradation early and provide quantified flexibilityenabling improved efficiency uptime and system-level performance.

In this context the projects address a range of compelling challenges including the evaluation of converter and drive architectures for edge-resident intelligence; the development of advanced modulation estimation and control algorithms for high-performance operation; and the integration of online/continual learning and uncertainty quantification into converter and drive decision-making under real-time constraints.
Depending on the specific position and candidates background the work may involve drive-integrated monitoring and diagnostics based on electrical signatures physics-informed and probabilistic learning methods for robust adaptation across varying mission profiles and experimental validation on state-of-the-art laboratory setups and where relevant in collaboration with industrial partners for demonstration and deployment.

Responsibilities and qualifications
If you are motivated by contributing to the development of these technologies and helping turn ambitious research ideas into real-world solutions we are already on the right path together.
We also hope that you have experience in the following areas:

  • Knowledge of computer science and machine learning.
  • Familiarity with electrical and electronic engineering.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python C or MATLAB.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent command of the English language and communication skills with the ability to present results in scientific papers.

We recognize that excellent candidates may bring different combinations of skills and experiences. If you do not think you meet all our requirements but are enthusiastic about the position and believe you can contribute to our research vision we encourage you to apply anyway; you could be the ideal candidate for us.

As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
