Job Summary

Description

If you have an interest and/or knowledge within wind turbine aeroacoustics and you would like to be part of a research and development group of highly competent researchers and engineers supported by advanced computational tools and test facilities a position as a development engineer at DTU Wind and Energy Systems will be the perfect place to be.

The development engineer will join a cross-disciplinary international team working on developing experimental and numerical methods for wind turbine aeroacoustics with funding from national and international projects and development in collaboration with the industry. Also the newest research and development will be applied together with leading manufacturers within the wind turbine industry.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The positionis focused on aeroacoustic development activities spanning from experiments in the Poul la Cour Tunnel Denmarks largest wind tunnel to tests on full scale wind turbines. The work for the development engineer has emphasis on carrying out tests in the wind tunnel and on full scale tests the development of acoustic measurement techniques and methods to analyse the particular the development engineer will work with microphone array techniques such as beam forming and deconvolution and operation of the wind activities can in addition range from carrying out wind tunnel or wind turbine tests setup of test equipment coupling of sensors to the equipment assessment of the correctness of the measurements possibly fault finding in the measuring system maintenance and development of measuring instruments and the measuring set-up in addition to communication with national and international customers.

A brief description of the wind tunnel can be found at . Flow speeds of up to 105 m/s can be achieved and as instrumentation in the wind tunnel there are 576 pressure sensors 84 microphones and a number of other sensors for measuring pressure temperature humidity and other parameters.

The tests are closely connected with the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic research at DTU which is carried out by around 40 people. As the facility is a national research infrastructure many external users such as universities and Danish and global wind turbine manufacturers will test in the tunnel. You will participate in a number of national and international projects and contribute to the development of the wind tunnel development of measurement methods and thus further optimization of the wind turbines aerodynamic and acoustic properties.

The particular areas of responsibilities include:

  • Testing and experimental data analysis of blade sections in wind tunnel and wind turbine blades
  • Operation of theDanish Aerodynamic and Acoustic Wind Tunnel the Poul la Cour Tunnel
  • Validation and improvement of aeroacoustic measurement techniques.
  • Field tests of wind turbines for aeroacoustic characterization to contribute to the improvement of the prediction and design tools for modern wind turbines.
  • Most of the work will be done in nationally and internationally funded projects together with leading manufacturers within the wind turbine industry.

The candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Experience with experimental work and signal processing combined with analytical skills
  • A background to develop methods in experiments in aeroacoustics especially with focus on wind turbines
  • A background and interest in developing microphone array measurement techniques especially for use in wind tunnel tests
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to pro-actively collaborate and coordinate
