Lead Embedded Software Engineer
Job Summary
The Role:
The Lead Embedded Software Engineer will be based at the Dyson Shenzhen office and/or JDM supplier sites and will serve as a key member of the embedded software development team supporting the delivery of high-quality embedded software solutions for Dyson products.
This role combines software development technical collaboration software integration troubleshooting and manufacturing support responsibilities. The engineer will work closely with Dyson Embedded Software Engineers Electronics Hardware Engineers System Engineers Quality and Manufacturing teams as well as JDM software and hardware development teams throughout the product lifecycle from concept development through product launch and mass production.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining embedded software features and components owned by Dyson supporting hardware-software integration activities driving technical issue resolution and ensuring effective collaboration between Dyson and JDM engineering teams. The engineer will play a critical role in delivering software that meets product requirements quality standards project schedules and manufacturing readiness objectives.
The role requires strong hands-on embedded software development experience excellent debugging and problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple organizations and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced Agile development environment.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development
- Develop maintain and enhance embedded software features and modules assigned to Dyson in accordance with project requirements and software ownership responsibilities.
- Participate in software requirements analysis design implementation testing and technical reviews.
- Deliver high-quality embedded software following Dyson architecture coding standards and development processes.
Technical Collaboration
- Act as the primary technical interface between Dyson and JDM software teams facilitating effective communication and collaboration.
- Work closely with Dyson Embedded Software Electronics Hardware and System Engineering teams to ensure successful feature implementation and integration.
- Support alignment of software requirements interface definitions technical decisions and project deliverables across Dyson and JDM organizations.
- Communicate project progress risks and issues to stakeholders.
Software Integration & System Development
- Support integration of Dyson-developed software into JDM product platforms and participate in system-level validation and release activities.
- Collaborate with Dyson and JDM hardware teams on board bring-up hardware-software integration and subsystem validation.
- Support integration of sensors actuators communication interfaces and wireless connectivity modules within Dyson products.
- Participate in software build release configuration management and continuous integration activities.
Troubleshooting & Issue Resolution
- Investigate and resolve software integration and system-level issues identified during development testing manufacturing or field operation.
- Perform root cause analysis and work with Dyson and JDM teams to implement effective corrective actions.
- Proactively identify technical risks and drive timely issue resolution to support project delivery.
Manufacturing & Production Support
- Provide onsite software support during EVT DVT PVT and mass-production phases.
- Support production software deployment manufacturing issue investigation and yield improvement activities.
- Work with Dyson Manufacturing Quality and JDM teams to ensure successful product launch and production stability.
Key Skills / Experience
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering Electronics Engineering Computer Engineering Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in embedded software development including software design implementation integration debugging and testing.
- Strong proficiency in C/C programming for embedded systems.
- Experience developing production-quality software on MCU-based platforms.
- Good understanding of embedded software architecture design principles and software development best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of MCU/MPU architectures and embedded system fundamentals.
- Experience with common embedded interfaces and peripherals including I2C SPI UART GPIO ADC PWM and DMA.
- Experience with hardware-software integration board bring-up and system-level debugging.
- Familiarity with Linux-based development environments and software build systems.
- Proficiency with embedded debugging tools including JTAG/SWD debuggers oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Experience with source code management tools and collaborative development workflows (e.g. Git).
- Good understanding of Agile/Scrum software development methodologies.
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues perform root-cause analysis and drive issue resolution across multiple teams.
- Experience working closely with electronics hardware engineers and understanding hardware-software interfaces.
- Ability to read and understand hardware schematics interface specifications and technical documentation.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across Dyson and JDM organizations.
- Self-motivated proactive and able to work independently in a fast-paced development environment.
- Fluent in spoken and written English and Mandarin Chinese.
- Willingness to work at Dyson Shenzhen office and JDM supplier sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with ODM OEM EMS or JDM product development organizations.
- Experience in consumer electronics home appliances IoT products or other high-volume embedded systems.
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools including Jira Confluence and Bitbucket.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines automated testing and software quality assurance practices.
- Knowledge of wireless technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Wi-Fi Zigbee Matter NFC or MQTT.
- Experience with manufacturing test systems production programming or factory diagnostics tools.
- Familiarity with software security practices static code analysis and secure coding principles.
- Experience working in global cross-functional teams and managing technical collaboration across multiple organizations.
- Knowledge of MCU performance optimization memory analysis and resource utilization profiling.
