Compass ELC is currently developing an equity strategy that includes internal work and sector advocacy. This role will be part of our Women and Gender Equity Project and equity circle until the projects end date of March 2027. This role plays a central coordinating function helping to connect people projects and equity initiatives across the organization.

Purpose: To coordinate Compass ELCs advocacy and equity initiatives by bringing together community partners staff and stakeholders to advance learning strengthen inclusion and belonging and address barriers experienced by racialized immigrant workers in the child care sector.



About the role

As a Compass ELC(CELC)Project Coordinator you will be working alongside our Women and Gender Equity (WAGE) projectteamto support inidentifyingbarriers that affect equity-deserving people in childcare. You will spend your time engaging connecting and learning alongside staff and community partners. You will collaborate withexternal consultants andCELC teamsin particularCorporate Human Relations and Communications to move forward with the work plan.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

ProjectCoordination & Collaborative Leadership

  • Working collaboratively to coordinate and lead activities that support the project (e.g. dailylogistics scheduling meetingssetting agendas taking meeting notes setting workplansmanaging documents and keeping team members on track).
  • Monitor organize and support the implementation of the project work plan set out by community partners stakeholders and the Compass ELC team.
  • Supporting and coordinating the multiple project consultants as they bring forward research on best practices and develop and implement an EDI action plan
  • Making recommendations for sustainable project practices.
  • Working collaboratively with the Organizational Lead for Human Relations Human Relations Coordinators and the Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Grant Project team

Relationship building and community engagement

  • Engaging with municipal partners and community stakeholders.
  • Working towards systemic change through creating an understanding among municipal partners and equity-seeking community organizations of the barriers facing newcomer and racialized immigrant women entering the field of childcare to drive services that reflect their needs for income stability.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with staff and community partners.
  • Engagement and administrative support and coordination for the EDI Advisory Committee.
  • Engagement with Working Groups within CELC and the communities we serve

Knowledge Building and Research Support

  • Support the identification and removal of barriers affecting newcomer and racialized immigrant women entering the workforce.



Knowledge Sharing and Documentation

  • Managing the equity newsletter communicating advocacy activities including staying informed and sharing emerging issues and changes in equity issues around the field

Professional Learning and Growth

  • Supporting the creation and facilitation of professional learning; develop resources to ease entry into this career pathway for newcomer and racialized and immigrant women
  • Working with the Organizational Lead for Pedagogy and the project consultants to support the development of learning opportunities connected to inclusion and belonging.
  • Champion intersectional and inclusive practices across all levels of the organization (i.e. staff children and families)

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2-3years of experience with project development and coordination
  • 2-3 years of experience working within a leadership role
  • A diploma or post-secondary education in Project Management or another relevant field is valued but notrequired.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards is valued but not required
  • You have valid certifications including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • You have a passion and experience for supporting Diversity Equality and Inclusion work
  • You are comfortable with technology primarily Microsoft 365 and have experience collecting data.
  • Experience working alongside Early Childhood Educators is valued but not required
  • Experience mobilizing advocacy campaigns building coalitions or engaging with partners for systems-wide change is valued but not required
  • Skilled in problem-solving multitasking and communicating
  • Strong collaborative and facilitative approach able to bring teams together and align across various stakeholders and interests.
