Job Summary

Vocal Tutorial Instructors are leading industry professionals who work with the Honours Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance students in one-on-one tutorial sessions. They provide ongoing personal training in vocal technique across a variety of disciplines/genres and further support students work in classes production as well as their creative projects (i.e. Creative Cabaret Projects Production etc.).

What Youll Be Doing

  • Delivering regular weekly tutorials (in-person) throughout academic term;
  • Ongoing one-on-one vocal technique training with students for a variety of styles/genres;
  • Supporting students in classes production and projects;
  • Engaging in service to the program sitting on audition panels for program admissions;
  • Participating in department meetings;
  • Attending creative projects and performances;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


About You

You demonstrate the ability to work effectively with an increasingly diverse student and staff population along with a commitment to anti-oppression equity and inclusion.

You demonstrate evidence-based voice pedagogy and expertise in at least one vocal style/technique (e.g. classical musical theatre CCM) and passion and appreciation for other vocal styles.

You are highly organized detail-oriented and able to balance multiple priorities while meeting schedules and deadlines.

You demonstrate sound judgment initiative and effective problem-solving skills when troubleshooting equipment procedures and setups.

You have strong understanding of performance requirements and repertoire demands on the professional music theatre industry.

The successful candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Possess a minimum of a Bachelors degree in vocal performance musical theatre voice pedagogy or a related field is preferred;
  • Related professional experience (i.e. performance music direction etc.);
  • Basic piano skills;
  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in industry preferred;
  • Strong network of contacts with other professionals in the musical theatre industry;
  • Excellent communications organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
