POSITION SUMMARY

The Utility Aide reports directly to the Environmental Services Supervisor and is responsible for assisting with and ensuring that the requirements of the Ministry of Long Term Care and other legislation thataffect the operation of the department are met. As a valued member of Long Term Care and Seniors Services the Utility Aide demonstrates a commitment to resident safety by providing quality services in accordance with the organisations mission and vision.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

assigned areas and equipment are maintained in a safe clean and sanitary condition.

that established policies procedures and work assignments are carried out and recorded as directed.

utilizes all electronic systems provided.

in the pickup delivery receiving checking and storing of incoming suppliesas required.

in the rotating of stock and monitoring of expiry dates.

immediate supervisor informed of potential shortages in supplies.

all general heavy housekeeping duties directed such as dusting wall washing vents interior window cleaning floor care including carpet cleaning sweeping damp mopping scrubbing waxing buffing and stripping in assigned areas.

painting snow removal sanding and salting of walkways and general grounds maintenance and care as required.

or assist with resident moves and/or discharges including furniture and equipment movement as required.

and disposeof garbage as required.

of inventory supplies (chemicals incontinent supplies linens) to units and storage areas as required.

cubicle curtain drapes pictures etc. as required for cleaning.

cleaning and disinfecting of requested areas or rooms as required.

other staff with resident room carbolizations and décor repairs.

in the implementation of quality management mechanisms as required. (i.e. home audits).

in performing safety checks.

in service education sessions staff meetings committee meetings workshops etc. as directed by immediate supervisor.

in and demonstrates an understanding of resident safety principles and practices into all day to day activities. Follows all safe work practices and procedures and immediately communicates any activity or action which may constitute a risk to resident safety.

other duties as assignedincluding redeployment in emergency situations.

with all relevant legislations/regulations policies and procedures.

confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Personal Health Information Protection Act.

in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the Long Term Care Homes Act and their regulations in performing duties in a safe manner and follows all County of Simcoe Health & Safety policies procedures and legislation.

EDUCATION TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

Completion of grade 11.This job may be considered for educational equivalency in accordance with County Policy.

Ability to successfully complete a reading and comprehension assessment.

Proven knowledge in housekeeping and building maintenance and repair practices in a similar setting.

Flexible with willingness to learn new tasks multi-task and adapt to quickly changing priorities.

Proven knowledge of floor care.

Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.

Able to work with minimal supervision.

Strong customer service skills with a recognition that errors and omissions may result in serious consequences for residents and staff.

Basic word-processing and email skills are required.

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening that is less than six (6) months old at time of hire.

As a condition of employment candidates are required to submit documented results of TB testing as per PublicHealth requirements.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three (3) months experience in housekeeping and/or maintenance in a related environment.

EFFORT

Constant standing and walking during work periods turning stooping bending and lifting.

Moving equipment and performing other related tasks.

Ability to lift 50lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working with cleaningmaterials exposed to dirt dust smells etc.

This position is located in a long term care facility exposure to illnesses and germs are possible on a daily basis.
