Your Future Role
As a Support Systems Engineer you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of LRT vehicles and infrastructure on the Ottawa LRT system. You will act as a key technical resource supporting maintenance troubleshooting reliability improvement lifecycle management and asset performance initiatives while collaborating closely with engineering maintenance operations and stakeholder teams.
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Project Engineering Manager you will:
  • Manage the technical performance of rolling stock and infrastructure systems and provide Return of Experience (Rex) to relevant Services Platforms.
  • Optimize maintenance plans associated activities and technical scopes to improve system reliability and availability.
  • Support cost reduction initiatives in collaboration with engineering sourcing and industrial teams.
  • Maintain and update project technical documentation with particular focus on Ottawa LRT Stage 2 and overhaul activities.
  • Develop maintain and execute Obsolescence Management Plans.
  • Interface with stakeholders throughout certification and compliance processes.
  • Develop work instructions procedures and maintenance processes based on maintenance plans and manuals under the supervision of vehicle and infrastructure engineers.
  • Analyze system technical performance and maintenance effectiveness recommending and implementing improvement action plans.
  • Support safety management systems and participate in safety risk assessments.
  • Ensure efficient materials and spare parts codification in accordance with Alstom platform standards quality requirements and applicable norms.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Life Cycle Cost (LCC) models and associated reporting.
  • Promote modern maintenance methodologies including Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) Lean practices and emerging technologies.
  • Analyze material spare parts and labour consumption to support operational optimization.
  • Support engineering efforts to ensure the train scanner system is fully operational and assist operations teams in utilizing and extracting system information.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve project and operational objectives.
  • Other relevant responsibilities as assigned by manager.

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering Electrical Engineering Automation Robotics Railway Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of railway fleet and infrastructure systems engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of rolling stock equipment and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Experience in railway vehicle testing troubleshooting maintenance and reliability improvement activities.
  • Preferred experience working with GSI SES and IMIRS systems.
  • Familiarity with applicable North American railway standards and maintenance practices.
  • Strong technical writing reporting and data analysis skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to assess technical solutions perform cost evaluations and support decision-making processes.
  • Experience identifying evaluating and managing technical risks.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • High level of self-motivation technical curiosity enthusiasm and commitment.
  • Strong attention to detail and desire for continuous learning.
  • Knowledge of Citadis LRV control systems is considered an asset.
  • General knowledge across railway engineering disciplines and operations with specialization in at least one technical area is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Quality and Health & Safety standards.
Compensation
The expected compensation for this role is $80000 $105000 CAD per year plus benefits and eligibility for an annual performance bonus. Final compensation will be based on skills experience and internal equity.
