Position Information:

Payband: KStarting Rate: $47.13 Four Year Rate: $54.48
Department: Faculty of Health Science
Hours: 35 hours per week (1) one hour lunch; Mon Fri (8:30 am 4:30 pm).Hours may vary earlier or later depending on the requirements needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Health Sciencesthe incumbent will act as a resource to professors and students in the designintegration and delivery of simulation-based learning experiences (face to faceand virtual) for programs in the Facultyof Health Sciences.

Collaborate withfaculty Associate Dean and Executive Dean to create design and deliver astudent centred interactive engaging learning experience using simulation asthe teaching and learning modality to effectively meet the learning outcomes ina wide variety of healthcare programs including:

  • Design develop (using specialized softwareprogramming) and deliver simulation based experiential learning sessions faceto face or virtually for healthcare curricula.
  • Analyze feedback received from faculty studentsassociate dean and executive dean related to the simulation learningexperience and determine if modifications are required. If modifications arerequired the incumbent will create or redesign the simulation-based learningexperience.
  • Remain knowledgeable of current universal andinstructional design the principles of adult teaching and learning and using awide variety of software to create and deliver interactive virtual and face toface clinical experiences and feedback surveys.
  • Maintain and oversee the Simulation learning spacesincluding setting up and taking down equipment completing minor repairs onsimulators troubleshooting issues related to hi-fidelity simulators andoperating systems preventative equipment maintenance cost sourcing andcomparison software and equipment updates scheduling of the lab space remainup to date on current trends related to simulation and simulation equipmentincluding current literature related to simulation best practices and mentornew support staff and faculty.
  • Develop and deliver educational sessions (in personor virtually) based on data collected and analyzed by the incumbent of thelearning needs of faculty and support staff. The educational sessions developedby the incumbent are built based on universal design adult educationprinciples and Best Practices of Simulation to increase the knowledge and skillof faculty and support staff to strengthen their skills as facilitators in thefield of simulation.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of nursing theory andcompetent nursing psychomotor skills when providing feedback to students and inanalyzing data and creating simulation-based learning session to meetestablished criteria.
  • Provide technical support for faculty duringsimulation-based learning sessions using hi-fidelity simulators and requiredsoftware.
  • Act as a facilitator interacting with studentsduring and debriefing students after the learning experience towardsuccessfully meeting established learning outcomes for the experientiallearning session
  • Maintain the simulation web page and clinicalsimulation case study database and is responsible for scheduling the simulationlab learning space
  • Participate in research and projects with DurhamCollege Ontario Tech U and outside universities and colleges.
  • Act as a resource to other departments in both thecollege university and community
  • As a shared responsibility with the Durham Collegeand Ontario Tech U simulations specialist works with students from the workstudy program and provides tasks to the students i.e. timelines ensures safetyetc.
  • Participate in meetings committees and eventsrelevant to simulation and healthcare education
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 4-yeardegree in Nursing and current Certificate of Registration with the College ofNurses of Ontario.
  • Degree in Adult Education would be an asset.
  • Certification in HealthcareSimulation (e.g. Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator - CHSE)
  • A minimum of 5 years ofwork experience in nursing experience in a variety of health caresettings including acute care hospital long-term care and community service.
  • Two or more years of experiencein working with post-secondary students in a lab and/or clinical setting.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years ofexperience in healthcare simulation including scenario development simulationdelivery and debriefing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge andcompetency in instructional design programming instructional use of andmaintenance of a variety of equipment and technology including but not limitedto patient simulators.
  • Demonstrated knowledge ofprinciples of adult education and teaching methodology and using technology tosupport teaching and learning.
  • Experience in curriculumdevelopment and assessment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of BestPractice Standards: Simulation
  • Proficient in the operation and troubleshooting ofhigh-fidelity manikins (e.g. Laerdal CAE Healthcare).
  • Experience with simulation software and audiovisualequipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft OfficeSuite and learning management systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changingtechnology and educational environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills creativityorganizational and planning skills.
  • Strong analytical andproblem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work co-operativelywith minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to workeffectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated time managementskills.
  • Ability to do effectivedemonstrations to small groups.
  • Ability to work effectively witha variety of stakeholders including students faculty support staffadministrators otherdepartments within the post-secondary system andexternal sales and service representatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of andresearch experience.
  • Ongoing participation inprofessional development opportunities related to simulation and healthcareeducation.
