Shift Engineer (4th Class Power Engineer)
At Fairmont Hotel Vancouver our Shift Engineers play a critical role in maintaining the safe reliable and efficient operation of the hotels building systems. As a 4th Class Power Engineer you will help ensure our guests and colleagues enjoy a seamless experience by monitoring and maintaining essential mechanical electrical and life-safety systems throughout the property.
As part of the Engineering team you will contribute to the exceptional standards of service and facility excellence that define Vancouvers iconic Castle in the City.

What You Will Be Doing
- Deliver professional friendly and engaging service to both guests and colleagues.
- Monitor operate and maintain boiler HVAC plumbing electrical building automation and life-safety systems during assigned shifts.
- Perform routine rounds inspections equipment readings water treatment testing and maintain accurate operational records and regulatory documentation.
- Respond promptly and effectively to equipment failures alarms guest requests leaks and emergency situations escalating issues as required.
- Safely isolate equipment and adhere to lockout/tagout procedures to support maintenance and repair activities.
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks and work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain clean organized and safe workspaces while ensuring the proper care of tools equipment and hotel assets.
- Identify report and address hazards equipment deficiencies incidents and safety concerns.
- Participate in shift handovers team meetings training programs safety initiatives and operational audits.
- Comply with all hotel policies engineering procedures health and safety regulations and Fairmont brand standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
What Were Looking For
- Valid British Columbia Fourth Class Power Engineer Certificate (required)
- Previous experience in hotel commercial institutional healthcare or high-rise building operations preferred
- Strong working knowledge of boilers HVAC plumbing electrical mechanical and building automation systems
- Sound understanding of occupational health and safety practices WHMIS lockout/tagout procedures and safe equipment operation
- Trade certification apprenticeship training or related technical education is an asset
- Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systems (BAS) is an asset
- Strong troubleshooting organizational and communication skills
- Proven ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
- Highly organized dependable and capable of prioritizing competing demands in a fast-paced operation
- Flexible and available to work rotating shifts including evenings overnights weekends holidays and emergency call-ins
Physical Demands of the Position
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
- Frequently climb stairs and ladders bend kneel crouch and reach
- Work in mechanical rooms confined spaces and elevated work areas
- Safely operate hand and power tools while using appropriate personal protective equipment
- Lift carry push and pull loads of up to 23 kg (50 lbs.
- Work in environments that may involve exposure to noise heat cold dust chemicals and emergency response situations
