The Town of New Tecumseth is looking for a Program Instructor II to join our rapidly growing team.

Under the direction and guidance of the Coordinator Recreation Programs this position is responsible for leading supporting and coordinating recreation programs with the Town of New Tecumseth.

Program areas include dance sport preschool cooking science art and general interest. These programs run seasonally and range from pre-school age to adults. Please indicate in your cover letter what age group you would be interested in teaching (preschool youth teens adults older adults)

How you contribute to our organization:

  • Lead and participate in general program activities by teaching a skill or coordinating an activity ensuring that the program is age appropriate challenging and fun as outlined in the program description in accordance with HIGH FIVE Principles of Healthy Child Development where applicable.
  • Monitor interaction and provide guidance to ensure the social well-being of the participants in the program. Provide support and respond to behavioral issues where necessary.
  • Do not engage in any activity which would distract your attention from the participants.
  • Develop positive and professional relationships with all stakeholders regarding programming changes to schedules and participant concerns providing on-going proactive communication
  • Provide set-up and end of program clean-up and storage of supplies checking that all equipment is safe and in good condition (reporting immediately all malfunctions and removing the damaged equipment immediately from circulation)
  • Take responsibility for the maintenance and cleanliness of program areas (office equipment/storage rooms etc.)
  • Enforce all rules and expectations maintain order in the designated program as a proactive approach to accident prevention while ensuring own safety and safety of the participants on site while carrying out activities
  • Conduct regular headcounts of participants to ensure everyone is safe and in attendance
  • Attend all designated corporate customer service and position specific training required.
  • Responsible for keeping informed about new/updated corporate or departmental policies/procedures and programs.
  • Work collaboratively and supportively alongside other instructors to ensure programs are well supported and all associated program duties are completed.
  • Mentor Program Instructor 1 staff to support their growth and learning

What you bring to the team:

  • Standard First Aid with CPR level C
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Completion of High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Specific certification and education related to specialty programs. Examples: Dance gymnastics piano instructor levels art/watercolour certifications nutrition computer software etc.
  • Ability to provide a clean Police Records Check Vulnerable Sector Check where appropriate
  • High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development is an asset.
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention or Behaviour Management Systems is an asset.
  • Over 1 year experience working with children youth adults or older adults which will benefit the program targeted demographic.
  • Experience following a program plan and utilizing resources would be beneficial
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff parents participants and community leaders.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both written and verbal communication and demonstrate sensitivity to others.


Salary: $25.65 - $30.17 plus 4% vacation pay and optional enrolment in OMERS pension plan
Hours: Up to 24 hours per week
Location: Tottenham Community and Fitness Centre; Beeton Memorial Arena; New Tecumseth Recreation Centre; and/or other Town facilities within Alliston Tottenham and Beeton.
Start Date: Sept 18th / Sept 21st
