Position summary
Department / Research Program: CORE

Projects goal: Improving outcomes and use of healthcare services for all people with dementia through an equity lens. The incumbent will act as a lab manager and will coordinate the team projects on equity for people with dementia exploring the differences in their health services use and experiences across social-determinants of health and their interactions to inform equity-oriented policies and contribute to achieve strategic and operational objectives of the principal investigator.

As an early career researcher building my lab I am looking for lab manager to build a long-term productive relationship with to structure and organize with various research projects focusing on improving care for older people with dementia. This is a one-year full-time position with the possibility for renewal and/or promotion pending fit and available funds. I am looking for someone who will stay in the position for at least 3 years. The lab manager will work at the forefront of important cutting-edge research aimed at improving dementia care through equitable practices. This role offers the chance to work closely with a collaborative and interdisciplinary team and have a direct impact on the design and success of research projects that can improve the lives of people with dementia.

General Duties
The Lab Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of our research group. This position will be central to the research team providing both managerial and research expertise. The incumbent will work across multiple research projects focused on equity in dementia care ensuring that all activities are executed efficiently. Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with the PI and research team to design and conceptualize studies ensuring that projects are administratively methodologically and logistically sound
Contribute to the development of study protocols research questions and theoretical frameworks
Leading the planning organization and implementation of multiple research projects in collaboration with PIs at other institutes universities and provinces
Developing project timelines milestones and deliverables ensuring adherence to deadlines and project goals and coordinating and managing the logistics of all research activities (e.g. tasks are completed on time and within budget)
Providing guidance and supervision to managing the work of and delegating tasks to other team members (research assistants data analysts interviewers students) in close collaboration with the PI
Leading regular team meetings to track progress mitigate risks identify issues follow-up actions and ensure collaboration across projects
Serving as the primary point of contact between the PI and other key parties including collaborating researchers patient and community partners and institutional staff
Working on qualitative research with team members to support the recruitment of participants establish and maintain contact and obtain informed consent
Mentoring and supporting research staff fostering a collaborative and productive work environment holding workshops or seminars on research methods and professional development
Providing research support: assisting with literature reviews and research tasks
Drafting scientific reports and research publications
Preparing applications for grant and funding opportunities ethics review and contracts
Maintaining and organising project files ensuring all documents are up-to-date
Collaborating closely and regularly with patient partners (people with dementia and their care partners) community partners (community organizations) to understand their needs and priorities and to conduct mixed-methods research alongside them
Contributing to research dissemination by writing and presenting both qualitative and quantitative findings in reports manuscripts and presentations for varied audiences.

/ Experience

Education: Masters Degree
Field of Study: Not restricted but prefer Management administration or project management.
Other education considered an asset for this position: an academic diploma in Public Health Sociology Anthropology Health Services Research Medicine Epidemiology Psychology etc.

Work Experience: At least 5 years of experience in project/research management including experience coordinating research projects and managing teams (e.g. lab coordinator or project management roles)

This position requires an advanced knowledge of oral and written French.
An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required as the position requires regular and complex contact with patients researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English. The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.

Strong understanding of mixed-methods research with knowledge of quantitative data analysis and statistical methods and experience with qualitative data collection analysis and tools
Knowledge of research ethics and compliance including experience with ethics applications institutional review boards (IRBs) and data privacy regulations
Experience with preparing funding applications for institutional provincial federal and organizational grants experience in doing so English and in French is a strong asset
Demonstrable experience in undertaking independent research
Exemplary writing skills with demonstrable experience in writing for academic and community audiences (e.g. publications reports grey literature infographics pamphlets etc.)
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills with experience supervising research assistants and staff
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills experience working with patient and community partners is an asset
Autonomy (with minimum supervision after appropriate training) drive initiative creativity curiosity
Team player and ability to mobilize key members
Detail-oriented resourceful strong problem-solving skills multitasking abilities organized.

The following are assets:
Advanced knowledge of equity-related literature including social determinants of health intersectionality and anti-racism
Experience working with historically marginalized populations
Prior experience in working with health administrative databases causal inference methods biostatistics
Proficient at using MS Office applications (Word PowerPoint Excel Forms Teams etc.) and reference management software
Experience with collecting qualitative data (e.g. interviews focus groups ethnography case studies etc.)
Develop qualitative research methods for ethical submissions grant proposals and research protocols and contribute to the writing of papers
Experience with hosting workshops and seminars giving talks etc. on various aspects of the research process including study protocols data collection techniques and ethics.

Status: Temporary full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Variable Schedule
Other: Working hours are flexible but typically land between 9:00-17:00.
Work Site: Montreal General Hospital
This position offers the possibility of a hybrid work arrangement (on-site and remote).
Additional specifications: Flexible: with at least 1-2 days on site
