Intermediate Communications Specialist
Job Summary
The Government of Alberta is seeking an Intermediate Communications Specialist to support Court Technology Services (CTS) within the Justice business unit.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Executive Director CTS leadership project teams and key stakeholders to develop and deliver clear consistent timely and audience-focused communications supporting organizational change technology initiatives executive messaging employee engagement and strategic priorities.
The Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing communication strategies plans presentations executive materials organizational announcements newsletters FAQs briefing notes visual communications and other professional communication products.
- Develop executive communications on behalf of the Executive Director including branch updates leadership messages organizational announcements and employee communications.
- Prepare monthly CTS branch communications based on information provided by leadership.
- Develop and implement communication strategies and plans supporting organizational transformation and technology initiatives.
- Create professional communication materials including:
- Executive presentations
- Briefing notes
- Speaking notes
- Newsletters
- FAQs
- Infographics
- Visual communication materials
- Executive presentations
- Develop and maintain branding and visual identity for CTS initiatives.
- Translate complex business and technical information into clear concise and audience-appropriate communications.
- Support organizational change and employee engagement through effective change communications.
- Review edit and provide quality assurance for communications prepared by project teams and leadership.
- Review existing operational communications including service outage maintenance incident and service-change notifications and recommend improvements.
- Develop standardized communication templates guidelines and communication processes.
- Collaborate with executives managers SMEs project teams and other stakeholders to gather information and develop communication products.
- Develop presentations and supporting materials for executive meetings leadership forums town halls and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Provide communications advice and recommendations to CTS leadership regarding messaging communication channels and stakeholder approaches.
- Ensure communication products follow Alberta Courts communication standards visual identity requirements and plain-language principles.
- University degree in Communications Commerce or a related field with 4 years of progressively responsible related experience; OR
- Related diploma with 6 years of progressively responsible experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years developing and implementing effective communication plans.
- 3 years developing professional internal and organizational communications including executive/leadership messages employee communications announcements newsletters and briefing materials.
- 3 years developing professional presentations and visual communication materials.
- Strong advanced Microsoft PowerPoint skills.
- 2 years reviewing and evaluating communications and recommending improvements to clarity consistency effectiveness and audience suitability.
- 3 years of professional business writing editing and translating complex business/technical information into clear communications.
- 2 years working directly with executives senior leaders managers and subject matter experts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- 2 years developing branding visual identity templates infographics or other visual communication products.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite Canva or comparable design tools.
- 1 year developing communications for technology service disruptions outages planned maintenance incidents or service changes.
- 2 years working in technology IT digital transformation or a technical environment.
- 1 year of communications experience within government public sector courts justice or another regulated organization.
- 2 years supporting organizational transformation change management restructuring or major organizational change initiatives.
- 1 year using SharePoint Microsoft Teams or other digital platforms to publish/manage organizational communications.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite in Edmonton at the Court Technology Services office located at the John E. Brownlee Building or First & Jasper Place as operationally required.
Standard working hours: Monday to Friday 8:15 AM4:30 PM MT excluding Province of Alberta holidays.
