Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technician providesacademic technical and operational support for the Faculties ScienceEngineering and Technology (SET) and Hospitality and Horticultural Science(HHS) at the Whitby Campus. The role is integral to supporting the delivery ofpractical laboratory and experiential learning activities by ensuringlaboratories equipment materials and supplies are prepared maintained andavailable to support curriculum delivery and student success.

Working closely withfaculty staff industry partners and students the incumbent coordinateslaboratory readiness inventory management procurement equipment maintenancecalibration troubleshooting and health and safety compliance. The Technicianensures that laboratory environments operate effectively safely and inalignment with program requirements institutional policies and regulatorystandards.

The incumbent is responsiblefor maintaining laboratory equipment records maintenance logs and standardoperating procedures while providing technical expertise and support tofaculty students and administration. The role also supports laboratory operationsstorage management equipment lifecycle planning and continuous improvementinitiatives that enhance the quality and effectiveness of academic programming.

In addition the Technicianworks alongside work-study students providing mentorship guidance andongoing support to promote safe and effective laboratory practices andadherence to established health and safety standards. The incumbent contributesto maintaining clean organized and operational learning environments and maysupport workshops student recruitment activities special projects and otherinitiatives that advance program excellence and campus engagement.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a 3-year diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology Architectural Technology Horticulture and/or Sciences or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of recent relevant experience. It is an asset if this experience is supporting laboratory technical or applied learning environments within civil engineering horticulture architectural construction or related disciplines.
• Demonstrated experience operating maintaining troubleshooting and supporting technical laboratory equipment and related testing procedures; experience in civil chemical or food science laboratories is an asset.
• Experience with inventory management purchasing budget monitoring and procurement processes including obtaining quotations preparing requisitions and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
