The Mechanical Contractors Association of Alberta (MCA Alberta) is the voice of Albertas unionized and open-shop mechanical contracting industry representing contractors across the province while advancing excellence through advocacy education labour relations safety workforce development and member services. Working collaboratively with industry partners government labour organizations and national associations MCA Alberta is committed to strengthening Albertas mechanical construction industry today and into the future.
The Opportunity
MCA Alberta is seeking an accomplished and visionary Executive Director to lead the Association through its next chapter of growth and industry leadership. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors the Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the Association and is responsible for the strategic leadership operational management financial stewardship governance support and external representation of MCA Alberta and its affiliated organizations.
This role requires an experienced executive who can build strong relationships with members industry stakeholders government labour partners and national organizations while ensuring the Association delivers exceptional value to its membership.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Execute the strategic direction established by the Board of Directors.
- Identify emerging industry trends risks and opportunities that impact Albertas mechanical contracting industry.
- Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Board on industry issues member priorities and organizational growth.
- Lead organizational planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
Governance & Board Relations
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
- Support effective governance through board planning reporting meeting management and Annual General Meeting coordination.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with volunteer leaders committees and member representatives.
- Ensure effective communication between the Board membership and key stakeholders.
Financial & Operational Leadership
- Provide overall leadership for the Associations operations ensuring sound financial management and organizational sustainability.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and oversee financial reporting audits investments and organizational performance.
- Ensure appropriate governance compliance and risk management practices are maintained.
- Oversee the administration and strategic direction of the Associations affiliated programs and trusts.
People Leadership
- Lead mentor and develop a high-performing team while fostering a collaborative and service-oriented culture.
- Provide strategic oversight of departmental priorities member services education events communications and administrative functions.
- Ensure staff are aligned with organizational goals and member expectations.
Member & Industry Engagement
- Build trusted relationships with contractor members throughout Alberta.
- Promote member engagement through responsive service education networking and industry initiatives.
- Represent MCA Alberta with industry associations labour organizations regulatory bodies government officials and strategic partners.
- Strengthen relationships with provincial and national industry organizations to advance the interests of Albertas mechanical contracting sector.
Advocacy & Industry Representation
- Serve as a respected spokesperson for the Association on matters affecting the industry.
- Monitor legislative regulatory workforce and economic developments impacting members.
- Lead advocacy initiatives and collaborate with industry partners to influence public policy and industry advancement.
- Represent MCA Alberta on provincial and national committees boards and working groups.
Oversight of Affiliated Organizations
Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for affiliated organizations and initiatives including:
- Group Insurance & Employee Benefits Trust
- Alberta Trade Contractors Council (ATCC)
- MCA Canadas Managers Council and national initiatives
- Industry education workforce development and training partnerships
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and strategic executive with demonstrated success leading complex organizations and engaging diverse stakeholder groups.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Progressive senior leadership experience as an Executive Director CEO Association Executive or comparable leadership role.
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and supporting strong governance practices.
- Strong financial acumen including budgeting financial oversight and organizational planning.
- Exceptional relationship-building communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience working with government industry associations labour organizations or regulated industries.
- Proven ability to lead organizational change while building consensus among diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Albertas construction mechanical contracting or industrial sectors is considered a significant asset.
- Post-secondary education in business public administration engineering construction management or a related discipline is preferred.
