Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) Manager
Job Summary
AECOM Pickering is seeking an experienced Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) Manager to lead and coordinate engineering support throughout the construction phase of a major water infrastructure project. The successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technical specialists ensuring timely engineering support during construction technical compliance issue resolution and effective coordination between the client contractor design team and other project stakeholders. This role will be responsible for conveying design intent addressing constructability challenges managing design changes and fulfilling the obligations of the Engineer of Record through project close-out.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) including tunnelling shafts underground structures marine works environmental and associated civil infrastructure.
- Manage and coordinate engineering support throughout construction to fulfill professional and contractual obligations.
- Manage client expectations regarding engineering support and ensure alignment with project objectives.
- Coordinate timely responses to Site Queries (SQs) Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) Site Instructions construction submittals and other construction-related technical queries.
- Review and manage engineering effort monthly progress and invoices associated with ESDC services.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams and specialty subconsultants to resolve construction-phase technical issues.
- Work collaboratively with contractors to communicate design intent and resolve constructability challenges.
- Ensure designated field personnel respond to engineering related construction quality needs as required (Inspection Test .)
- Establish and/or manage workflows for SQs construction document reviews record drawings construction certificates and other ESDC deliverables.
- Monitor ESDC procedures throughout construction and recommend process improvements where appropriate.
- Collaborate with the Document Control team to ensure all post-Issued for Construction (IFC) technical decisions field changes and design revisions are properly documented.
- Confirm the accuracy and completeness of project close-out documentation.
- Collaborate with the Contractor and Client to support project close-out and final handover activities.
- Report regularly on construction-phase engineering activities risks and key performance indicators to project leadership.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering Structural Engineering Mining Engineering or a related field with 6 years of relevant experience.
- Experience supporting engineering or contract administration activities during construction on complex infrastructure or building projects.
- Understand and can manage the processing of SQs NCRs construction submittals and other construction-phase technical documentation.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and coordinating between design and construction teams.
- Strong understanding of construction methods sequencing and constructability considerations.
- Professional Engineer (.) designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of engineering or construction-phase support experience on major infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting Engineering Services During Construction (ESDC) for tunnelling underground infrastructure water/wastewater marine or other large heavy civil projects.
- Experience with tunnel boring machines (TBM) shaft construction microtunnelling underground excavation or marine intake/outfall infrastructure is considered an asset.
- Experience delivering projects using Design-Build Progressive Design-Build Alliance or P3 delivery models.
- Experience working and leading teams in an engineering consultancy environment.
- Experience supporting contract administration or engineering services during construction on complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams during construction.
- Excellent communication collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
