The Opportunity
Job classification: SA004 - Educational Counsellor I
Salary Range: $88590 - $117264 annually (based on a full-time equivalent). This is a 0.8 FTE position (29 hours per week) and compensation will be prorated based on the positions reduced schedule. Placement within the range is typically based upon a review of skills experience and internal equity.
Paid leave: 43 days vacation per year (based on a full-time equivalent). This is a 0.8 FTE position (29 hours per week) and vacation entitlement will be prorated based on the positions reduced schedule.

Reporting to the Manager Student Development and Counselling the Educational Counsellor I plays a key role in supporting student wellbeing and success through a comprehensive range of counselling and mental health services. This is a 0.8FTE on-campus position and a member of the SAIT Academic Faculty Association (SAFA).

As part of SAITs Student Development and Counselling (SDC) you will provide personal counselling crisis intervention psychoeducational workshops mental health training and consultation services for members of the SAIT community. You will also facilitate professional development sessions and contribute to campus-wide wellness initiatives through outreach education and collaboration across the institution.

In the event of a campus critical incident you will provide critical incident debriefings to affected individuals and ensure appropriate follow-up support referrals and care as needed.

This is a temporary position created to assess and support the counselling needs of the Taylor Family Campus Centre (TFCC) which is scheduled to open in August 2027. The term of this role may be extended based on the evolving needs of TFCC and available budget funding.

Note: SAIT as a post-secondary institution serves a diverse student population. Therefore instructional duties may occasionally be required during early mornings evenings and weekends. If selected specific scheduling arrangements will be discussed between you and the leader.
How youll contribute
  • Provides academic career personal and crisis counselling to SAIT students.
  • Conducts risk assessments crisis intervention and referrals on an as-needed basis as part of SAITs professional support team.
  • Designs and delivers psychoeducational workshops presentations and outreach programs that enhance student success.
  • Provides general and formal consultation to SAIT faculty and staff regarding student issues involving psychological or mental health difficulties.
  • Liaises with schools departments and other student service areas regarding the provision of programs workshops and services that enhance student well-being and success.
  • Provides assessment and referral services within SAIT and to appropriate community resources and performs other post-secondary counselling-related duties as required.
  • Work collaboratively to support a cohesive client-centered team environment.
What you bring
Minimum:
  • Masters degree in Psychology or Clinical Social Work
  • 2-3 years in crisis Intervention experience providing counselling support to individuals facing a variety of concerns experience in a postsecondary counselling setting skilled in the delivery of psycho-educational workshops
  • Active Registration as a Psychologist or provisional Psychologist in Alberta Clinical Social Worker or an equivalent designation along with relevant liability insurance
