The Digital Design and Delivery Division (DDD) is the Provinces centre for digital delivery. It was established to maximize capability and confidence in modern digital practice by ensuring service quality and value through standards and controls. This includes utilizing human-centred design approaches together with agile methodology and modern data practices. DDD works in partnership with GoA ministries to deliver programs that better serve Albertans.
DDD requires up to seven (7) DevOps Specialists to work with DDD on service innovation program review and digital transformation projects across the GoA. The DevOps Specialists will work as part of cross-functional program review or product delivery teams. These teams led by GoA product owners and DDD work collaboratively and collectively participate in a full range of activities including field research backlog definition and refinement and sprint planning and execution.
Digital transformation projects review the current state of services identify future opportunities and then deliver new services that are efficient effective and affordable.
DevOps Specialists will be responsible for overseeing the quality in the delivery of digital services and ensuring that a teams focus is on quality. A DevOps Specialist is typically responsible for creating test plans test cases and scenarios identifying required test types assets and data environments and tools and creating automated test suites.
The DevOps Specialists will be required on a full-time basis working across two (2) to three (3) projects. Time location and frequency of work will vary depending on the needs of the project. At the end of each term it is expected that the DevOps Specialists may work a maximum of 1960 hours unless otherwise agreed upon with the Province. However DevOps Specialists may be required to work fewer or more hours depending on the nature and needs of their work as directed by the Province.
Services and project deliverables should evolve as the work progresses in response to emerging user and business needs as well as design and technical opportunities. However the following must be delivered iteratively over the course of the project:
Automation & Operations
Create scripts tools and procedures for operations by designing and implementing automation for limited downtime deployment and maintenance.
Lead operations of digital services in production by:
Managing configuration and credentials for the production environment
Planning and managing maintenance activities
Managing database upgrades and migrations backups recoveries etc.
CI/CD & Environment Management
Provide operations support for implementation and enhancement of digital services by:
Creating templates and patterns for application deployments and CI/CD pipelines
Creating scripts and tools to automate the establishment of environments for development and testing
Observability & Monitoring
Create tools scripts and processes that will enable application teams to have better observability of the application through monitoring and telemetry tools.
Best Practices & Testing Support
Support delivery teams in adopting best practices by:
Providing operations support for early and frequent integration testing security scans system testing and performance and load testing
Providing operations support for early and frequent delivery to end-users in limited availability launches (Alphas and Betas)
AI & Process Automation
Removal of manual processes through the implementation of automated/AI solutions.
The Province and the Contractor shall determine changes to Services and Materials as required through the Artifacts.
Education
University degree or college diploma in Computer Science Information Technology Software Engineering or a related discipline.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
5 years of progressive experience in DevOps cloud operations or site reliability engineering.
Demonstrated experience designing and implementing automation for deployment and maintenance.
Strong experience with CI/CD pipelines application deployments and environment automation.
Proven experience managing production environments including configuration credentials maintenance and database operations.
Experience with monitoring telemetry and observability tools.
Experience supporting integration testing security scans system testing and performance/load testing.
Experience implementing automated/AI solutions to remove manual processes.
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS Azure or GCP).
Proficiency with CI/CD tools (Jenkins GitHub Actions Azure DevOps GitLab CI).
Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker Kubernetes OpenShift).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform Ansible CloudFormation).
Scripting skills (Python Bash PowerShell).
Experience with database management (SQL PostgreSQL MongoDB).
Knowledge of security best practices and compliance requirements.
Experience with AI/automation tools for process improvement is an asset.

Location
DevOps Specialists will primarily work remotely; however may be required to attend meetings or work sessions in Edmonton on reasonable notice from the Province up to 15%.
Time to travel and any associated expenses to and from Edmonton will be at no cost to the Province.
Work Authorization
Work MUST be done within Canada due to network and data security requirements.
Hours
Full-time basis working across two (2) to three (3) projects.
Maximum of 1960 hours per term unless otherwise agreed upon with the Province.
Equipment
The resource must provide their own computer and related equipment.
The ideal candidate is an experienced DevOps Specialist with a strong background in automation CI/CD cloud operations and production support. They bring proven experience managing digital services in production creating automated test suites and implementing observability tools. The candidate is highly collaborative detail-oriented and capable of working across multiple projects while maintaining high-quality standards and compliance with government policies.
