Job Title: Data Analyst Location: Edmonton Alberta (Hybrid) Duration: 9 Months (Contract)
Job Overview:We are seeking a Data Analyst to support model design and development by validating and testing data models canonical definitions and unified business object designs. The role involves working closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to ensure data structures accurately reflect operational and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Model Validation
Test canonical data elements against real datasets
Validate business object models using historical data reporting templates and program-specific datasets
Identify and highlight edge cases during design and development phases
B. Semantic Analysis
Analyze data for measurement comparability unit normalization and consistency
Evaluate data types and temporal alignment (e.g. sample dates vs reporting dates)
Identify where standardization is appropriate and where it may impact data meaning
Provide recommendations to support data architecture decisions
C. Analytical Prototyping
Build exploratory analytical views to test aggregation trends and scalability
Validate whether data models support cross-program analysis and large datasets
Assess performance and usability of data structures
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday
8:15 AM to 4:30 PM (1-hour lunch)
Primarily remote with occasional in-office meetings (approximately once per month)
Work must be performed within Alberta
Equipment Requirements:
Candidate must provide their own computer and office setup
System must support Azure Virtual Desktop (Windows preferred)
Secure access tools will be provided
Mandatory Requirements:
Degree or diploma in Business IT or related field or CBAP certification
Minimum 3 years of experience in:
Business requirement analysis related to data analytics
Data manipulation transformation and cleansing
Designing and developing Power BI solutions
Experience working with complex and regulated datasets
Nice to Have:
Experience leading initiatives facilitating workshops and working with senior stakeholders
Experience collaborating with leadership and architecture review boards
Experience with data governance frameworks and gap analysis
Strong requirement gathering skills using various techniques (interviews workshops process modeling etc.)
