Job Summary
In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reports to the Unit Supervisor Cytogenetics and Molecular Diagnostics or designate. Under the direction of the Unit Supervisor and Cytogeneticist conducts a variety of diagnostic tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of Cytogenetic conditions.
Current Clinical Genetics or Cytogenetics Technologist certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). Bachelor of Science in a related discipline and one (1) year recent related cytogenetic experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to manage workload and establish clinical priorities according to the changing needs of the hospital.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal effectively with others including co-workers hospital and medical staff and patients.
- Knowledge of high-resolution microscopic analysis photomicroscopy and other relevant equipment and procedures pertaining to cytogenetics.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
