Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a qualifiedConstruction Field Engineerto support theConstruction Phase Services (CPS) Leadin delivering engineering services during construction forrail transit and major infrastructure projects.Rail and transit experience is mandatoryfor this role.
The Construction Field Engineer will providefield-based construction observation and technical supportto help expedite field inquiries resolve site requests and ensure Construction Management Quality systems are followed and that works is completed in accordance withIssued for Construction (IFC) drawings project specifications applicable codes and standards and the overall design intent.
Working closely with the CPS LeadEngineer of Record (EOR) contractors and other project stakeholders the Construction Field Engineer will monitor major construction activities includingtrack civil structural and landscaping works as well as installation activities related tomechanical electrical and building systems.
The role is responsible for verifying compliance with design requirements and quality standards supporting coordination between design and construction teams and helping identify and resolve technical or interface issues betweenMEP systemsand other infrastructure components.
This role is well suited to a technically strong professional with significant field experience on complex infrastructure projects involvingtransit stations underground utilities Operations Maintenance and Storage Facilities (OMSF) and other rail-related infrastructure.
Role accountabilities:
The Construction Field Engineer will:
- Perform regularsite surveillanceand construction observations to verify that contractor activities are carried out in accordance with IFC drawings project specifications approved shop drawings and applicable codes and standards.
- Monitor majorcivil structural mechanical utility electrical architectural and landscapingactivities including the installation oftrack infrastructure communications systems transit signals and associated piping infrastructure.
- Observe the installation ofoverhead catenary systems including power distribution lighting cable containment grounding traction power systems and related equipment installations.
- Assist in identifying potential clashes or installation issues and facilitate coordination between the design and construction teams.
- Document field observations in accordance withConstruction Phase Services procedures maintaining accurate inspection records includinghold pointsandwitness pointsidentified inInspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Prepare detailedsite surveillance reports including written observations and photographic records of construction progress.
- Maintain inspection and surveillance tracking tools to support the CPS team in monitoring construction progress inspection status documentation requirements and outstanding technical actions.
- Identify potentialnon-conformancesor design-related issues and communicate them to the CPS Lead Engineer of Record and broader project team.
- Coordinate with contractor representatives andProfessionals of Record (PORs)to facilitate site inspections and support the resolution of construction-related submittals includingRequests for Information (RFIs) Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Field Change Requests.
- Support the design team as needed in reviewingshop drawings material submittals and Inspection and Test Plansas they relate to field implementation.
- Participate insite coordination meetings construction progress meetings and technical discussionsrelated to building systems and infrastructure interfaces.
- Promote Arcadis commitment tosafety quality and environmental stewardshipthroughout all site activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma or degree inCivil Structural or Mechanical EngineeringConstruction Engineering Technology orConstruction Management.
- Minimum of7 to 10 yearsof relevant experience inconstruction inspection construction observation or field engineeringon major infrastructure projects.
- Mandatory experienceonrail or transit projects including transit stations underground facilities or maintenance facilities.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards includingCSA standards Ontario Building Code (OBC) Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) CROR National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standardswhere applicableOHSA and relevant municipal and provincial requirements.
- Strong technical understanding ofconstruction processes and work proceduresfor major infrastructure projects.
- Experience coordinating acrosscivil structural architectural and rail systems interfacesis considered an asset.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepareclear technical documentation and site reports.
- Demonstratedclient-facing skillsand the ability to work collaboratively withinmultidisciplinary teamsin a fast-paced project environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to managemultiple prioritieswhile maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
- Proficiency withdigital and project delivery tools includingBIM Bluebeam MS Office project scheduling software and other industry-standard engineering and construction tools.
- Registration withProfessional Engineers Ontario (PEO)is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
- A validOntario Class G Drivers Licenseis required.
