CIVIL CONSTRUCTION ESTIMATOR
Landmark Solutions Ltd. (Landmark) is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Estimator to our growing Construction team with the opportunity for the individual to grow within our Construction and other sectors of the Landmark business. This role is intended for a practical construction professional who can develop accurate competitive estimates for civil and infrastructure work and who understands how projects are actually built. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers construction leaders suppliers and subcontractors across a diverse portfolio that may include bridges water infrastructure marine works earthworks and other civil construction

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Civil Construction Estimator Is an integral part of the Landmark team and will work closely and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Estimator plays a key role in supporting project bids budgeting and pre-construction planning and will work closely and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This position is based in Salmon Arm with the potential for some travel to view out of town projects. Duties and Skills include but are not limited to:
- Review drawings specifications tender documents and addenda to determine scope and estimating requirements.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and detailed estimates for labour equipment materials subcontractors and other project costs.
- Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations and identify scope gaps exclusions and commercial risks.
- Develop bid strategies assumptions contingencies and clarifications in collaboration with Landmark project and construction leaders.
- Participate in bid reviews and prepare complete tender and proposal pricing for approval.
- Maintain and improve estimating tools cost databases production-rate information and historical estimate-versus-actual data.
- Support handover of successful estimates to project teams and contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement.
- Visit project sites as required to understand conditions constructability access and execution risks.
- Build strong working relationships with subcontractors suppliers clients and internal teams.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Minimum 3 years of construction estimating experience with civil infrastructure industrial or comparable contractor-side experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare complete estimates using drawings specifications quantity takeoffs labour and equipment productivity subcontractor quotations and material pricing.
- Practical knowledge of civil construction methods sequencing equipment crews and constructability.
- Experience with bridges stream restoration marine works earthworks retaining walls-Arches MSE/GRS utilities or comparable infrastructure is an asset.
- Familiarity with Canadian or comparable North American construction estimating practices including tendering labour/equipment costing supplier/subcontractor markets specifications and commercial requirements.
- Competence with estimating and productivity software and strong general computer skills. Experience with HeavyBid or similar estimating systems is an asset.
- Strong analytical organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently manage priorities and meet tight deadlines
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
- Collaborative team player who works effectively with colleagues across the organization.
- Projects are located throughout western Canada and candidate must be willing to travel to project sites as required
- Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License with clean driving record and the confidence to drive safely in a variety of road conditions
- Other combinations of experience and education will be considered.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PATHWAYS
Landmark values practical construction knowledge and recognizes that strong estimators enter the profession through different pathways. Candidates may qualify through either:
- Post-secondary education in construction management civil engineering technology engineering or a related discipline; OR
- An equivalent combination of substantial civil construction field trade supervisory and estimating experience.
Experienced civil construction professionals who progressed into estimating through field or supervisory roles are encouraged to apply.
