Job Summary

EDUCATION EXPERIENCE and REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma in Human/Social Service or another related field
    • One (1) year of recent related experience working with adults with moderate to severe behavioural and developmental challenges
    • Or a combination of education training and experience.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Drivers License
  • A safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable and safe vehicle
  • TB Testing showing free from tuberculosis
  • Physical abilities to provide individuals with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting individuals in wheelchairs and walkers carrying lifting transferring pushing pulling bending assisting clients safely in and out of bed and bath and using lifts and other health equipment appropriately.
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C Mandt-RCT Safe Food Handling Medication Management CLBC Privacy Anti-Bullying and Harassment.
  • This job requires union membership with a 1.85% union due deducted from pay.
  • Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.

  • Interior Community Services is a Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) employer. Part-time employees entitlement to MPP is determined based on the length of service and accrued wages. If the candidate is already a contributing member then enrollment is on hire.


ABOUT THE JOB:

The Adult Living Support Worker provides care to adults with behavioral and developmental diverse abilities in a home setting. Responds effectively to the clients needs while carrying out behavioral plans. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates with individuals caregivers and other community professionals to assess residents needs and develop and attain individual goals. Adjusts goals and strategies as required.
  • Assesses personal care and health needs and performs care as required.
  • Provides activities that support residents independence and encourage meaningful community connections.
  • Provides healthy meals and snacks ensuring the specific dietary needs of the individuals are met.
  • Manages general household chores including meal plan and prep shopping laundry yard maintenance and basic repairs.
  • Administers medication following the agency procedures.
  • Supports residents to advocate for themselves and liaises with social workers community resources family etc.
  • Teaches relationship-building skills while fostering self-esteem self-advocacy and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Supports residents in managing their personal finances as needed.
  • Schedules appointments and transports clients using the program accessibility van. (medical optical and dental appointments family visits recreational outings etc.)
  • Recognizes and responds to potential risks and emergency situations to minimize harm to clients staff and/or the public. Takes proactive measures to prevent potential escalations.
  • Manages the residential budget including clear and accurate documentation of petty cash and spending.
  • Maintains daily client information and activity logs.
  • Ensures required documentation is complete timely and accurate.


SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:

Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Work effectively with individuals with moderate to several behavioural and developmental challenges including individuals on the Autism spectrum.
  • Build healthy trusting relationships with all involved parties including the individual colleagues supervisors community professionals care teams and family members
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours crisis situations and aggression
  • Provide life skills support using a strengths-based approach
  • Develop and implement client-focused schedules plans and goal-setting methods
  • Work effectively independently and as a strong contributing member of a team
  • Follow directions and implement strong critical and analytical thinking in the work applying appropriate policies and procedures
  • Take initiative notice what needs to be done in the program and follow through
  • Manage conflict effectively
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Run and maintain a home including shopping cleaning yard work cooking budgeting and meal planning.
  • Cook healthy nutritional meals

PROGRAM: River House Supported Home - CLS

LOCATION: Kamloops BC

STATUS: Part-Time

TERM: 3 months or until return of incumbent

HOURS of WORK: 28.07 hours per week on average

SCHEDULE: 4 days on-4 days off rotation 12:00 AM - 8:00 AM Awake Overnight Shift

REPORTS TO: River House Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $29.22-$33.54 per hour (Grid 11 as per collective agreement)
