The Opportunity
CQCC is seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to take full ownership of the accounting cycle and month-end close. This person will ensure accurate timely financial records and reporting keep the organization audit-ready year-round and manage the day-to-day work of the bookkeeper.
The successful candidate will not simply follow existing processes. They will assess how the work is done strengthen controls improve workflows and systems and build an accounting function that is reliable efficient and scalable.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full accounting cycle including the general ledger accounts payable and receivable oversight cash management journal entries accruals reconciliations and month-end and year-end close.
- Lead a disciplined month-end process maintain a clear close calendar investigate discrepancies and ensure financial reports are accurate complete and delivered on time.
- Keep CQCC audit-ready throughout the year by maintaining complete schedules documentation internal controls and supporting records; coordinate annual audits funder audits and compliance reviews.
- Manage and support the bookkeeper by setting priorities reviewing work clarifying procedures resolving issues and reinforcing accountability for timely accurate execution.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements management reports budgets forecasts and cash-flow information and explain financial results to non-financial colleagues and leaders.
- Oversee not-for-profit and grant accounting including project coding eligible expenditures funding reconciliations deferred or restricted contributions project budgets and funder reporting.
- Oversee payroll processing and related compliance ensuring payroll information is accurate properly approved and reconciled to the accounting records.
- Review document and redesign accounting processes controls and systems to reduce manual work improve data quality and make better use of QuickBooks Online Dext ApprovalMax payroll platforms and Excel.
- Partner with the Director of Finance and internal teams to support sound financial decisions organizational planning and responsible stewardship of funds.
DESIRED COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE
Education & Experience
- Bachelors degree in finance accounting commerce business administration or a related field; additional training in not-for-profit accounting grant management payroll audit or financial systems is considered an asset;
- CPA designation CPA candidacy MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience is considered a strong asset;
- 5 years of progressive experience in finance accounting financial management controllership or a related function; previous experience as an Accounting Manager Finance Manager Senior Accountant Controller or similar role is considered an asset;
- Hands-on accounting experience in a not-for-profit charity chamber of commerce business association economic development supplier diversity or grant-funded environment is required;
- Demonstrated experience owning full-cycle accounting reconciliations financial reporting and month-end close;
- Experience preparing grant reports funding reconciliations project budgets and funder-facing financial materials and supporting annual audits funder audits compliance reviews and external financial reporting requirements;
- Experience managing or supporting payroll processing and payroll-related compliance;
- Experience using accounting and finance software such as QuickBooks Online Dext ApprovalMax payroll platforms and Microsoft Excel;
- Experience translating financial information for non-financial partners and stakeholders;
- Experience supervising or managing a bookkeeper finance coordinator consultant or other finance support resource; and
- Experience working with 2SLGBTQI communities equity-deserving communities entrepreneurs or inclusive economic development initiatives is considered an asset.

Terms
This is a full-time position supporting finance accounting payroll budgeting reporting and financial compliance activities across CQCC. The successful candidate may work remotely within Canada with preference for candidates located in Toronto or another major centre with access to organizational funder and stakeholder networks. This role reports to the Director of Finance and works closely with internal teams to support financial operations budgeting grant reporting audit preparation payroll and organizational planning.
Compensation
Salary will be based on skills and experience within the annual earnings range of $77000$85000. Additional benefits round out the compensation package including group benefit plan coverage annual vacation and a generous public holiday schedule including paid time off between Christmas Day and New Years Day.
