Data and Index Analyst

The Role

You will be part of our dynamic Fastmarkets Index team which supports the Editorial business function in developing and delivering indices price analytics and strategy through data insights and business intelligence. Highly valued by the business we are working hard to use data to support pricing and editorial strategic decisions.

We are looking for the right candidate to play a key role as part of our your role you will report directly into the Index Manager and you will be responsible for maintaining and developing Fastmarkets index pricing data models optimizing efficiency and ensuring precision in normalizing a wide array of market data to a single reference price. You will also be crucial in creating and delivering valuable insights that improve decision-making and in participating in an array of projects to refine and improve key performance indicators (KPIs) across Editorial and other Fastmarkets teams.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Periodically update normalization models based on fresh data sets on tight schedules to maintain pricing precision.
• Optimize and automate normalization models to increase model accuracy and identify patterns and variables that may be unaccounted for.
• Understand how commodity markets and the pricing of those markets work from economic and technical perspectives and be able to explain these concepts internally and externally.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of data analytics processes and tools to improve analytical and pricing output.
• Analyse various large and complex data sets to uncover hidden insights and provide recommendations to support business decisions and strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritise business problems and develop data-driven solutions.
• Present/communicate actionable data-driven insights and recommendations to key stakeholders including members of Fastmarkets senior leadership team.

KEY INTERFACES

• You will report into the Index Manager.
• You cultivate strong working relationships with reporters and editors. 
• You will work closely with cross-functional teams presenting actionable insights and suggestions for developing data dashboards and solutions.
• You are receptive to mentoring and coaching.

KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated driven and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.

• Excellence in taking initiative demonstrating independent curiosity and critical thinking
• Expertise in using AI tools
• Expertise in using R Python SQL and Excel and working with large data sets
• Familiarity with building data pipelines and combining data from multiple sources
• Comfort in applying regression analysis
• Familiarity with Snowflake
• Understanding of statistics forecasting and research tools.
• Strong communication skills including the ability to find actionable items in data and to present complex data-driven insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Understanding of economic principles and commodity markets.
