Job Summary

JLE Group is seeking an experienced Switchboard Electrician to join our Manufacturing & Hire division. Based in Newcastle this role offers stable workshop-based work building High Voltage electrical equipment for major construction project renewables & data centres.

About the role

The Switchboard Electrician is responsible for the assembly wiring and testing of electrical switchboards distribution boards and related LV/MV systems ensuring all work is completed safely efficiently and in compliance with AS/NZS standards project specifications and company quality requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assemble wire and fit-off electrical switchboards and distribution boards.
  • Install components including breakers relays busbars cabling systems and protection devices.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics single-line diagrams and layout drawings.
  • Complete panel layout and internal wiring in line with design documentation.
  • Conduct testing including continuity testing insulation resistance (IR) functional and operational checks.
  • Identify and rectify defects or non-conformances and assist with FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and site commissioning where required.
  • Complete QA documentation ITPs and test records.
  • Ensure all work complies with AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules AS/NZS 61439 Switchboard Standards.
  • Maintain accurate redline drawings and as-built documentation.
  • Follow all WHS procedures SWMS and safe work practices.
  • Apply lockout/tagout and isolation procedures.
  • Maintain a clean safe and organised work environment.
  • Assist in process improvements and standardisation.
  • Mentor apprentices and junior trades where required.

What youll bring

Essential:

  • NSW Electrical Licence.
  • Electrical Trade Qualification.
  • Strong understanding of AS/NZS 3000 and relevant industry standards.
  • Experience in switchboard manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of WHS and compliance requirements including Australian standards.

Desirable:

  • Well-developed management skills such as planning organising and evaluation.
  • Understanding and interpreting relevant Standards and Codes of Practice.
  • 712 years experience in the trade.
