Job Summary

Our client based in Epping Cape Town is seeking an experienced and results-driven Quality Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will have a relevant National Diploma or BSc Degree in Food Technology/Food Science with a minimum of 4 years experience in a Quality Manager QA Manager or QC Manager role within a food manufacturing or food processing environment. Candidates must have practical knowledge and experience of FSSC 22000 and/or BRCGS as well as experience in laboratory management product testing audits customer complaints and non-conformance investigations. Applicants must be fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English and have their own reliable transport. REQUIREMENTS:
  • Relevant Quality Management qualification or similar qualification.
  • National Diploma in Food Technology or BSc Degree in Food Science.
  • Minimum 12 years experience in a Quality Manager role.
  • Fully bilingual in Afrikaans and English.
  • Own reliable transport.
  • Must be willing and able to work night shifts when required.

DUTIES:

Food Safety & Quality Systems:
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with FSSC 22000 BRCGS applicable legislation and customer requirements.
  • Maintain and continually improve the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.
  • Ensure all manufactured products are legally compliant safe and meet approved specifications.
  • Participate in internal external certification and customer audits and ensure all findings are effectively closed out.

Product Quality & Laboratory:
  • Manage the Quality and Laboratory department including staff equipment testing resources and records.
  • Ensure raw materials work-in-progress and finished products meet approved specifications.
  • Ensure all required testing is completed including sensory/taste testing nitrite/curing salt preservatives color microbiological and other applicable testing.
  • Ensure external testing requirements are completed and results are reviewed.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated maintained and fit for purpose.
  • Investigate out-of-specification results and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Monitor product quality trends and identify recurring issues.

Non-Conformances & Corrective Action:
  • Raise and manage internal supplier and customer-related non-conformances.
  • Investigate quality and food safety deviations and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Implement monitor and verify corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure potentially unsafe or non-conforming products are appropriately controlled and dispositioned.

Customer Complaints & Technical Support:
  • Personally manage and investigate customer complaints relating to Quality and Food Safety.
  • Provide professional technical feedback and resolve quality-related customer issues.
  • Support company representatives with technical Food Quality and Food Safety queries.

Raw Materials & Suppliers:
  • Ensure raw materials comply with approved specifications and customer requirements.
  • Review relevant supplier documentation and Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
  • Assist with supplier quality issues supplier non-conformances and supplier performance monitoring.
  • Ensure the approved product and raw material testing programme is implemented.

People Management:
  • Manage develop and provide leadership to Quality personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews and manage employee performance.
  • Identify training and competency requirements.
  • Manage disciplinary matters in accordance with company procedures.
  • Ensure adequate resources and staffing are available to maintain effective operations.

Reporting & Continual Improvement:
  • Report Quality Food Safety laboratory and customer complaint trends to management.
  • Drive continual improvement and the reduction of non-conformances and customer complaints.
  • Maintain accurate Quality and Food Safety records and documentation.
  • Oversee operational Quality projects through to successful handover.
  • Perform other reasonable duties and ad hoc tasks as required by management.

  • Monday to Friday: 08:00 16:30
